A day in the life of a boy in Brazil depends on if his family is rich or poor. There is a stark difference between the rich and the poor. Some live in luxury, while others use outhouses and don’t have any waste collection facilities.
Thiago is 12 years old and he lives in San Paulo, Brazil. He really likes soccer and when he grows up he wants to be a famous soccer player.
Thiago’s family is very poor. While Brazil is a developing nation, he and his family live in the poorer section. They make at about 2 USD per day.
He goes to school during the day for only four hours. Thiago is almost done with school, once children are 14, they don’t usually go to school anymore. Kids in Brazil don’t get the best education compared to other developed nations. This is due to the fact that Brazil only spends 4.3% of their GDP on education.
After School, Thiago plays soccer with his friends and then goes home to his mom and dad and older sister and younger brother. His sister is in the kitchen helping his mom cook, it is difficult for them since they have no running water in their house. His dad encourages him to follow his dream of becoming a famous soccer player.
Health care in Brazil is not as good as it could be, other developed nations are about 30 years ahead of Brazil. Thiago often misses school because he is sick. Only about 25% of Brazilian citizen can afford good health care, Thiago’s family does not, so he doesn’t get treated as good as he could when he gets sick.
