This document contains some helpful tips for playing Perfidia through Vassal

Quick Guide for players who have not used Vassal

After installing Vassal, you can open the perfidia.vmod module from the main Vassal window. When you open it, a wizard will pop up to ask if you want to play offline (useful for getting familiar with the cards and layout) or if you want to go online.

If you choose to play online, it will ask you for a name and a password. The password is only for your personal use and doesn’t require any kind of registration (the password only holds a seat for you if you leave a game that you are playing).

You may start a new game from the drop down windows. If you are in an online game room, you can participate in a game which another player has started by right-clicking their name in the server window and click “Synchronize.” It will ask you which side you want to play.

The game window will look very different depending on what game you are playing. There are tabs at the top which let you access additional windows. Oftentimes, these windows are private and can only be viewed by one player or group of players (as is the case with the “Hand” windows in Perfidia).

Components can be dragged and dropped. Note that dragging a card from a deck will cause it to turn face-up, so when drawing cards you should drag them directly into your hand window. You can use the tools to adjust the zoom level of each window, but it is simpler just to leave the zoom at default and mouse over the cards to read them.

Pieces and decks can be manipulated by right clicking. Whenever you encounter an instruction you don’t know how to do with drag and drop (such as sending a card to the bottom of a deck), right click the piece and see what options are available. The commands available will depend on the specific module being played and what piece you click on.

It is important to note that Vassal does not enforce any gameplay rules. It is no different than having the actual game pieces in front of you. You can move them around any way you wish and it is up to the players to control the flow of the game.

Notes for Perfidia

When you start a new game or sync to one that has already been started, the window sometimes enlarges and shrinks the chat. There is a bar in between the chat and game window which can be dragged to resize. If the chat is not visible, the bar is at the very top of the window.

The Perfidia module has the cards organized to make deck preparation as easy as possible for the Shadow player. The first time he opens his hand, there will be a stack of cards for each character. This contains two of each copy (the third is already in the Neutral deck to begin). By right clicking these stacks, he can send them to either the Shadow or the Neutral deck. Setup is as simple as right clicking two stacks to send to the Shadow deck (the chosen traitor characters) and sending the remaining five to the Neutral deck.

There is a space under each character description for their card stack to fit. Right click the stack and “Draw Specific Card” to look through the contents of the stack.

There are tokens to mark when characters have been executed. Simply move the bloody claw marks over the character name to indicate it.

The Accusation event card does not go in a character stack since it “attaches” to the character. just place it below the stack so that it is not forgotten.

There is a Shadow score counter that may be incremented via right-click when the Shadow player scores points on the battlefield. When the value reaches 48, you should end the game (this is the end of the scoring track on the physical board).
