2019 -2020

What is happening in Physical Education…

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Coach Ray and Coach Rogers want you to know we miss having your kids in our classroom each day! We hope they are taking advantage of the beautiful weather we have been having and getting outside to get some physical activity each day to maintain a healthy lifestyle! Our hope is that we can provide you some resources for our students to use inside or outside to help our students get the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity a day.

Below it is divided up how Coach Ray and Coach Rogers teach the classes. There are many resources that apply to all grades so they are under the extra resources or under your grade level. Please remember we try to make PE as fun as possible for our kids! We have supplied you with resources to engage most interests of students that do not require a lot of equipment. Allow your kids to be creative when it comes to being active! Vitamin D is good for our minds and body!  We hope parents/guardians will enjoy getting outside with their kids as well!

The question "Is physical education necessary in schools?"

YES!!!  We are here to help your child learn about health, activities, and fitness.  We hope to ignite a spark that will last a lifetime.  We want your child to do the best he or she can do...being active is a vital part of this equation. Healthy habits start at home.  Will you join us?

If you have questions, please email us at rogersau@daytoncity.net or coxra@daytoncity.net

Thanks!

Coach Rogers & Coach Ray

Things to do while being at home:

The American Heart Association has Challenged You and Your Families to a 10 Day Challenge!

Hi Sweatbee family,

I hope your family is safe and healthy in the midst of ongoing coronavirus developments. It’s important for me to know our Sweatbee students are taking care of themselves during this difficult time.

While the school closures are necessary to ensure the safety of our children, families and community, I can’t help to be genuinely concerned about the students’ missed opportunities from school activities, to community and social events, to valuable time spent with one another, including our Kids Heart Challenge.

Our partners at the American Heart Association have provided our school with a 10 day virtual Kids Heart Challenge Event.

It will keep our students connected and help reduce stress and anxiety while staying physically active and helping our community. Daily emails will offer home activities, kid-friendly recipes and tips for parents to keep mental health and physical activity a priority. We are focused on the safety of your child. At the same time, keeping kids on the move and eating nutritious foods is extremely important to our students’ heart health. Over the next 10 days, your family can join in the following activities:

  1. DANCE
  2. KNOW YOUR HEART
  3. COMPLETE FINN’S MISSIONS
  4. JUMP!
  5. CONNECT THE DOTS
  6. KNOW THE STROKE SIGNS
  7. TIME TO COOK HEALTHY!
  8. GAME DAY
  9. SLAM DUNK! BE GRATEFUL
  10. MOVE MORE

If your child is registered for Kids Heart Challenge, we’re eager to share this new virtual challenge with you and your family. If they’re not yet registered, it’s time to log in to www.heart.org/khc and get excited about the fun, family-focused challenge.

PHYSICAL CHALLENGE

KINDNESS CHALLENGE

Call someone you love and wish them well today – be empathetic of what is on their mind.

Hello, Heart Hero!

How can you help connect the dots between being active and healthy behavior for with your family and friends?

On day five, we encourage you to think about ways to inspire your loved ones to include healthy activities in their daily routine. This could be a family step challenge, setting a timer that would prompt when it is time stand, stretch, or walk, climb a set of stairs, garden, or creating an in-home circuit exercise routine.

By setting a daily goal and working towards it, you are participating in a nationwide health movement that is bigger than you are! If everyone put a focus on their daily health goals than imagine how healthy our community would be. It is cool to be leading healthy lifestyle changes as a kid. We think it is pretty amazing and are proud of you!

It is important for both parents and kids to know that health is something you work at every day.

You’re over halfway there! Day 6 of the Kids Heart Challenge Virtual is all about kids learning information for your family and your community.

Thank you for learning the steps of
Hands-Only CPR!

Today we will focus on
recognizing the warning signs of a stroke.

Knowing the warning signs of a stroke is not only important it is easy to remember –
FAST!

F:
FACE DROOPING: Does one side of the face droop or is it numb? Ask the person to smile. Is the person’s smile uneven or lopsided?

A:
ARM WEAKNESS: Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S:
SPEECH: Is speech slurred? Is the person unable to speak or hard to understand? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence.

T:
TIME TO CALL 9-11: If the person shows any of these symptoms, even if the symptoms go away, call 9-1-1 and get them to the hospital immediately.

FAST is important knowledge to share with your friends and family – please spread the message today and remind 10 of your friends or family members.

Happy Good Friday!!! I hope you all enjoy your weekend!

**Here is a fun Easter activity for you and the family to do!! **

EGG HUNT

Instructions: Write a number 1 through 10 on small pieces of paper. You can use numbers more than once. (Example: if you have 20 eggs to hide, write each number twice, etc.) Place one piece of paper inside each egg. Now it’s time to hide the eggs! When the game begins, each student who collects an egg must open the egg and do the exercise inside before collecting more eggs. Use the ideas below or come up with some of your own challenges! Stay close by as your student finds the eggs to tell your student which exercise corresponds with each number.

Physical Activities:

1.Jumping jacks for 30 seconds 2.Stand up and sit down 10 times 3.Arm circles forward for 30 seconds, arm circles

backward for 30 seconds 4.Dance party for 1 minute 5.5 lunges on the right leg, 5 lunges on the left leg 6.Practice spelling, do a squat for every vowel A-Z 7.10 frog jumps 8.See how many squats you can do in 15 seconds 9.

Hop or jump like a bunny for 30 seconds 10.

High knees for 30 seconds

Pre-K:

  1. Work on locomotor Skills inside or outside
  1. Work on Non-Locomotor Skills Inside or Outside
  1. Tossing to Self with paper ball, scarf, or small ball. Challenge: Toss to self and walk.
  2. Jumping over lines on concrete, on tile, sidewalks, or string in grass.
  3. Go on walks/jogs/run around the house WITH parent or guardian!!
  4. Go on a Bear Hunt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzIcu6tbEko
  5. Dancing around the house doing the chicken dance, electric slide, cha cha slide, baby shark, or to your favorite song. There are plenty of songs that give students tutorials on how to do the dances.
  6. Place cards 1-10 (out of a deck of cards) in a pile upside down. Have the students stand about 20 feet away at a shoe. Object of game is to have students get numbers 1-10 (doesn’t matter the suit) one at a time and put them in order once they have all the numbers. (Will need help)
  7. Place Pieces of paper/sticky notes/deck of cards on the floor that are spread out and labeled with either numbers or letters in the alphabet. Have students jump, hop, bear crawl, etc. to the numbers or letters in order! Each time they get to the correct number or letter have them hold their pose or balance at the number or letter and tell you the next number or letter before moving to it! See if they can make it to the number 25 or the entire alphabet A-Z without messing up! Give some guidance if needed to get the correct answer!

*You can follow PE with Coach Wood on Youtube for some great PE class for the kids!! He has multiple days online. Please note their are some adds but a GREAT RESOURCE for students as they are completing school at home! Please remember students have multiple breaks throughout the day for recess and activities at school. They need this at home too!

*We will do our best to update this so you all will have a variety of things to do while at home! Take advantage of this time to learn how to cook, clean, grow a garden to learn how the plants grow and get nourishment and how that affects our bodies in a POSITIVE WAY! Eating Healthy is half the battle to a healthy and active lifestyle! Enjoy this time you have to do that and make it a good habit! It takes 21 days to form a good habit! As of 3/29/20 we have 28 days before we come back to school! Take advantage of those days to be healthy, learn a new skill, and be active!

We will post some links to videos to follow as well.  The most important thing is to just move around and stay active. CDC recommends 60 minutes of physical activity a day! Take a break from TV, video games, phones and Ipads. You can stretch and exercise while doing those things at the same time. Also try to eat healthy if you can. **Take this time to learn to cook in the kitchen (with your parents) or learn something new** Always drink plenty of water everyday.  Coach Ray and Coach Rogers miss you and cannot wait to come back to school and see you!! Remember to always wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and be safe.

Boys Basketball

The plan for basketball as of right now is if we are cleared to use the gym over the summer, I will open it to any child who wants to practice.  If not, then we will wait until the beginning of next year to start everything back up.  I hope everyone is safe and doing well. I cannot wait until basketball season starts and cannot wait to see all of you again! If you have any questions at all please email me (the link is above) or text me at 815-529-9768.
