Course Description
This course emphasizes algebraic forms, linear and quadratic expressions, powers and roots, and functions based on these concepts. Logarithmic, trigonometric, polynomial, and other special functions are also studied. A major theme is the use of these forms and functions to model real world situations. Graphing, with the use of a graphing calculator, will be emphasized.
Required Materials:
Textbook: Algebra 2, 2nd Edition, by Kennedy, Charles, Bellman, et al. Prentice Hall 2007.
Graphing Calculator: TI-83 or TI-84, any edition.
Notebook and writing utensils.
Other materials as directed by instructor.
Late Work Policy: Late work may be accepted, with penalty, at the teacher’s discretion.
FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION! The best path to success is to make sure you are prepared for your assignments and assessments on time the first time! Extra credit may be available, but don’t count on it. If you are struggling, seek help immediately from your instructor or another teacher or counselor. Seminar is held daily from 9:35am to 10:00am. It is your responsibility to get a pass, preferably the day before.
Test (not exam) Retake Policy
Students earning less than an A on any test may re-test after performing a review of the material per the instructor’s direction to insure that learning occur. Retests must be retaken prior to the exam covering that material. Retests must be retaken outside of regular class time (at lunch, before school, after school). The score on your retest will be the score that is put in the grade book, regardless of whether or not it is better than the original. It is up to you to make sure that you understand what was studied.
