Commonwealth book prize shortlist 2012 och Short story prize shortlist 2012 presenterades på Commonwealth Writer’s hemsida den 24 april.

Från och med 2012 års pris så får Commonwealth Writers Prize en nystart. Som förut kommer det att finnas två priser, men priser är från och med nu Commonwealth Book Prize och Commonwealth Short Story Prize.

Commonwealth Book Prize (Tidigare Best First Book Prize)

Delas ut för bästa debutbok, detta pris är öppet för författare som har haft sin debutroman (skönlitterärt fullängdsverk) publicerad mellan 1 januari och 31 december 2011. Regionala vinnare får £ 2.500 och den totala vinnaren får £ 10,000.

Commonwealth Short Story Prize

Delas ut för bästa opublicerade novell (2000 - 5000 ord). Regionala vinnare får £ 1,000 och den totala vinnaren får £ 5,000.

OBS! Att det kommer inte längre att finnas ett Best Book Award.

För varje pris utses regionala vinnare och en totalsegrare. Regionerna är Kanada & Europa, Karibien, Asien, Afrika och Stilla havet. Båda priserna är öppna för Commonwealth-medborgare över 18 år.

Commonwealth Writers' Prize är ett årligt litteraturpris som delas ut till två skönlitterära verk skrivna i något av de 53 länderna i det brittiska samväldet. De två klasserna som priset delas ut i är Bästa bok och Bästa debutbok. Priset delas ut av Commonwealth Foundation med stöd av Macquarie Group Foundation. Priset delades ut första gången 1987 och syftar till att uppmärksamma litteratur skriven av såväl nya som etablerade författare. Syftet med priset är att ge dessa författare uppmärksamhet i fler länder än deras hemland samt att uppmuntra dialog och förståelse för andra kulturer genom läsning.

Varje år delas priser för bästa bok och bästa debutbok ut i fyra regioner;

Afrika

Karibien och Kanada

Sydasien och Europa

Sydostasien och Stillahavsregionen

Från dessa åtta regionala vinnare utses sedan Bästa bok (10 000 pund i vinst) och Bästa debutbok (5000 pund i vinst) vid en officiell ceremoni som hålls i ett nytt samväldesland varje år.
