Parental Involvement Plan

Communication

The school will distribute a monthly newsletter to parents that is developed with participation of the parent-school organization, principal, staff and parent volunteers. It includes school news, a calendar of school activities, parenting tips related to school achievement, and opportunities for parents to volunteer within the school.   Each teacher will send home a folder containing student papers and work samples at least once each week.  Parents will be asked to sign the folder and send it back to school. Contact your child's teacher at 796-2112 or e-mail for more information.


The school will provide to parents interim reports/report cards every four weeks with information regarding their child’s academic progress. Contact your child's teacher or the school office at 796-2112 for more information.

 The school will send letters home with students, post notices in school facilities and public buildings, and provide information for local newspapers about parental involvement opportunities. Contact Jeannie Grissom at 796-2050 for more information.

 Engaging Parental Involvement Opportunities

PTVO meetings scheduled for the third Monday of each month during the school year, beginning in September. PTVO members regularly ask for volunteers to help in the school. Contact Beth Ann White at 796-2112 for more information.

Kindergarten Celebration will take place in May 2012 and will include planning meetings with parents and volunteers.  Contact your child's teacher or the school office at 796-2112 for more information.

End of Year Field Day for all students is hugely successful because of all the volunteers. This is a yearly event that involves parents, Fire Department, area business, high school students and school staff. Contact Karla Ault at 796-2112 for more information.

Volunteers and high school students help with Box Top cutting, counting and assembling throughout the year. Contact the PTVO or Beth Ann White at 796-2112 for more information.

Family Artwalk will be held in the spring. Every student in the school will have artwork displayed within the school for family and friends to view. Volunteers will meet with the art teacher to organize and hang artwork. Volunteers and school personnel will be available during Artwalk. Also, senior citizens from the Senior Citizen Center will assist students during art classes. Contact Tara Petty at 796-2112 for more information.

Family Supper will be held in the spring for all family and friends of the school. Volunteers and school personnel will plan and conduct the supper. Call the PTVO or Beth Ann White at 796-2112 for more information.

Training for "PowerPoint Parents" will be held at the Parent Center. Volunteers from our campus will be trained to help other parents in our school district. High school students in the Family Consumer Science classes interact with our elementary throughout the school year. They make educational games and teach our students how to use them, leaving the games in the classrooms. They also interact two or three times a year during our lunch and activity times. Fire safety is taught every year during the month of October. Local fire personnel visit our campus and

Yearly the Rice Depot and area residents provide backpacks of food weekly to our students. Area residents and our school counselor will pack and handout the food each week. Contact Terri Chandler at 796-2112 for more information.

Volunteer opportunities

The school and/or PTVO will provide a list of volunteer opportunities and solicit ideas for other types of volunteer efforts during orientation of parents.  The district Parent Center will maintain student prescriptions written for students having difficulty with particular skills as well as provide a variety of programs that instruct parents on developmentally appropriate learning activities at home (such as meal planning, discipline, etc.).  Teachers will earn at least two hours of professional development designed to enhance their effective parental involvement skills.

School-Parent-Compact

The school will develop and adopt the Parental Involvement Plan during the 2011-2012 school year. A committee of parents and school personnel will meet to develop the plan during the fall of 2011. Contact Julie Binam at 796-2112 for more information.

 Opportunities for Parents to Be Involved

An alumni advisory committee will meet twice per year to address the needs of families and the community. Contact Julie Binam at 796-2112 for more information.

The PTVO (our parent-teacher organization) will foster parental and community involvement. Contact the PTVO or Beth Ann White at 796-2112 for more information.

A bilingual interpreter will assist in parent teacher conferences and other events to encourage participation by LEP parents. Contact Sally Goff or Julie Binam at 796-2112 for more information.

Training "PowerPoint Parents" at the Parent Center will take place. Training will be held at the Parent Center October 25, 2011 and March 13, 2012. Additional training will be provided as needed. Contact Jeannie Grissom at 796-2050 for more information.

 

Parenting Resources

 The school counselor will work to coordinate services that address the needs of students and their families, and when appropriate consult sources outside the school that provide such services (such as food banks, counseling agencies, etc.) Contact Terri Chandler at 796-2112 for more information.

On-site Parent Center containing parenting books, magazines, and other informative materials regarding responsible parenting will be maintained through the school library. The school will distribute Informational packets each year that includes a copy of the school's parental involvement plan, survey for volunteer interests, recommended roles for parents/ teachers/students and school, suggestions of ways parents can become involved in their child's education, parental involvement activities planned for the current school year and information about the system that will be used to allow parents and teachers to communicate (notes, phone calls, e-mail…). Evaluation of Parental Involvement Efforts

 Parent Interest Surveys

The school will ask parents to fill out a parent interest survey at registration or at the beginning of each school year to get information from parents concerning the activities they feel will be most beneficial. Contact Jeannie Grissom at 796-2050 for more information.
