God Delights in us as His Beloved Children
By Pastor Drew S. Fenstermacher
Recently I was out with my shagger, three wood and seven iron. I was at one of my favorite parks practicing my golf swing.
While trying to work out a few kinks, I found myself reminiscing on the many joyful times that I have had at the same park with my wife, daughter and two sons. Looking at the tennis courts,
I remembered how much fun we had playing tennis together. Looking at the soccer field and adjacent hill, I remembered the summer of 2004 when we ran laps, did push-ups, sit-ups, and sprints, and then we ran hills- all in an attempt to prep our oldest son for eighth-grade football. While hitting and retrieving the golf balls, I found myself enjoying the many memories of my sons and I playing the nine hole course that we “created” at that park.
While reminiscing about playing golf with my sons, it struck me that within a few weeks both would be at college eight hours away from home. I will miss my sons as I have missed my daughter who went off to college before them, yet I am so thankful that all three are following the Lord’s leading in their lives. As their dad, I am excited to see them enter into the next phase of their pursuing and doing God’s purpose for their lives.
I love my children. Each one, equally and uniquely, is a precious gift from God as Psalm 127:3 says, “Behold, children are a gift of the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward.”
My children are my delight. Other than the Lord Jesus Christ and my dear wife, I have no greater delight in life than my dear children.
I am so thankful that my heavenly Father loves me and delights in me as His beloved child in the Lord Jesus Christ. God is love; He demonstrated His love for me in that while I was yet a sinner, Christ died for me (I John 4:8; Romans 5:8). Born a rebel against my Creator, I was born-again as a child of God in September of 1973 by trusting the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior. Galatians 3:26 says, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” God greatly loves me, and all who believe in Christ, as I John 3:1 proclaims, “See how great a love the Father has bestowed upon us that we should be called children of God.” My heavenly Father delights in me and in all His children as Psalm 149:4 sings forth, “For the Lord takes pleasure (delights) in His people; He will beautify the afflicted ones with salvation.”
I love my two sons and my daughter; they are my delight.
I am so thankful that my heavenly Father loves me and delights in me as His beloved child in the Lord Jesus Christ.
