Rejecting Gods Wisdom Will Cost You:

Many times we stumble in our walk of life because we simply do not humble ourselves and take heed to the wisdom which comes from God found in the Bible.  The Word of God, the Bible has the answer to every situation and challenge found in your daily life.

Proverbs 1:20-33 “Wisdom calls aloud outside; she raises her voice in the open squares. She cries out in the chief concourses, at the openings of the gates in the city she speaks her words: 'How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge. Turn at my rebuke; surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.  Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, because you disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, When your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. "Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord. They would have none of my counsel, and despised my every rebuke. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies. For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.  But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil." NKJV

God is always speaking to us, directing us in the way of wisdom, but we must honor our Lord Jesus Christ by honoring Him daily by spending time before God reading the Bible and praying.  God desires to direct His people daily in the ways of His Kingdom, but we must make the time to spend before him listening.

Psalms 81:8-12 Hear,O My people, and I will admonish you! O Israel, if you will listen to Me!  There shall be no foreign god among you; Nor shall you worship any foreign god. I am the Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.  "But My people would not heed My voice, and Israel would have none of Me. So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, to walk in their own counsels.NKJV

From this passage of Scripture we can read that God was willing to admonish them to help them.  But they would not listen!  Why?  They were prideful and stubborn.

How many of us make light of when we yield to the evil of pride?  God hates pride.

The Bible makes it very clear that when we walk in pride God will resist us.

James 4:6-8 “But He (God) gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."  Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” NKJV

Lets us look at the life of King Zekediah who failed because he lacked the humility to humble himself before God:

2 Chronicles 36:11-21 “Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. He did evil in the sight of the Lord his God, and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke from the mouth of the Lord. And he also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear an oath by God; but he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the Lord God of Israel.  Moreover all the leaders of the priests and the people transgressed more and more, according to all the abominations of the nations, and defiled the house of the Lord which He had consecrated in Jerusalem.  And the Lord God of their fathers sent warnings to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy.  Therefore He brought against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or virgin, on the aged or the weak; He gave them all into his hand. And all the articles from the house of God, great and small, the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king and of his leaders, all these he took to Babylon. Then they burned the house of God, broke down the wall of Jerusalem, burned all its palaces with fire, and destroyed all its precious possessions. And those who escaped from the sword he carried away to Babylon, where they became servants to him and his sons until the rule of the kingdom of Persia, to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her Sabbaths. As long as she lay desolate she kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.”

1.  King  Zedekiah refused from the beginning of his reign to humble himself and listen to the leadership, Jeremiah the prophet,  who spoke in the name of the Lord.

Question:   How do you respond to leadership?   Do you pray for them on a regular basis or do you fault-find and criticize?

2.  He mocked the messengers of God and despised their words from God till the Bible states there was no remedy.  King Zedekiah’s  pride and hardness of heart against the wisdom of God would be his downfall.  He was taken captive and eventually his eyes were plucked out.

How many times do we get ourselves into messes that are beyond repair because we will not seek or take heed to the counsel of the Lord.

Jesus stated in  John 15:5-6  "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”  Anything we attempt to do without God is counted as nothing.  The man or woman who walks in pride and refuses to seek God’s word for counsel and direction will end up at the end of life in much pain, agony, and regrets.   Let us heed the warning of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Matthew 7:24-27 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:  and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.  "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:  and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall." NKJV

Prayer:  Father God in Heaven, I humble myself and come to you in prayer in Jesus name.  I ask Heavenly Father for forgiveness when I have walked in pride and stuborness of heart. I acknowledge Lord and agree with your word that with out you I can do nothing. Please help me to learn daily how to depend upon you and your wisdom, seeking you first in all situations.  In Jesus name amen.
