(I will be using either Zephir or Dreamhost)

  1. Tell me a bit about your preferred computing environment – are you a PC, Mac, or Linux person and why? Which browser do you prefer and why?

I prefer to work in the Mac environment because that is what I use and own. However, I am just as well-versed in the Windows environment.

I prefer to use Firefox for general browsing and testing. I use Firebug and their developer Tools when coding. However, I also use Chrome for testing as I find their tools are more robust.

  1. Tell me a bit about your experiences as a developer – in particular, what languages have you used in the past? Have you ever worked with PHP prior to this class?

I have been enrolled at SCCC since Sept. 2010. I started in the Design program. In Web 110, I started to use CSS on my own. Then in Web 210, I started to use basic PHP on my own to streamline updates made to my webpages. For example, updating the header, nav, footer, etc. only once as opposed to each and every page. I use PHP or WordPress to build every website I create. I have taken ITC 280, ITC 281, ITC 298 (WordPress), and ITC 210.

  1. What are your goals for taking this class? Are you seeking to become a web developer are a career? Are you learning to program the web for fun?

My main goal for this class is to brush up on my PHP skills and enhance what I have already learned. I see this class as a reinforcement of what I have already learned a preparation for interviewing. I am looking for a career in front end development, mostly client-side development. Design is my niche and I have a passion for it. Learning development was a way to enhance my skill set to be competitive in the job market. “I can do that too” attitude.

  1. Some technologies evolve more quickly than publishers can make the most current versions of technical books available. For this reason, many web developers rely on online sources of technical information for  the latest information on a technology, like PHP.

Research the internet for FIVE sites that you believe will be good resources on PHP this quarter. List the URL and why you think this source will be helpful.
