Redding Monthlly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends

Treasurer’s Report:  Doris reported we have a total of $2,554.71 in our bank account.  Rent has been paid thru Dec 2011; PYM bill is due.  Net proceeds from the brunch were $920.33 

Present:  Doug Milhous, Tom and Sue Morehouse, Doris Bond.

Review and Approval of Minutes:  Tom provided printed copies of November’s business meeting minutes, which were approved.

Review of Mail:  Tom shared a note from Grass Valley Meeting about the campaign to get a end the death penalty ballot initiative for the 11/2012 election.  Susie will check into ways that our meeting can make this a project for our meeting.  Suggestions for action include: collecting signatures, getting trained, signing up at www.safecalifornia.org, contributing money to the Friends Committee on Legislation of CA at www.fclca.org.

Finance Committee:  Tom, Doris & Kathleen met to draft a recommended budget for 2012. This draft for 2012 is based on our actual income and expenses incurred during 2011.  Income received from donations by members & attenders totalled $770.  Based on our current income and expenses it was decided we would pay $500 to PYM, which is less than requested.  

We are requesting each member (only 8 now) to make an annual contribution of $150.  A reminder will be added each quarter to the minutes. Attenders are invited to make contributions to help cover our costs.  Our fixed expenses which include:  UMC rent ($600), PYM Assessment ($500), College Park Quarterly Meeting Assessment ($18), Telephone ($40), M&O Scholarship ($125), Whole Earth Festival ($50).  It was recommended that we cut our donation to Floating of the Lanterns ($20).  Contributions to worthy causes including American Friends Service Committee, Friends Committee on National Legislation and local groups will require extra contributions or fund raising.  The budget was approved. 

Ministry & Oversight: M & O committee did not meet this month.  Doug reported that 1/6/12 Dinner Among Friends will be a discussion about membership.  It will be at the Milhous’s at 6:00pm.  The first Pre-meeting Coffee Group will meet at 9:00 AM on 1/22 to discuss Faith & Practice.  It was approved that Doug will order 5 copies for the Meeting’s use.  These copies will be available for sale also.  Save the date of Sunday 4/22 at 2:00 PM for the next Meet the Quaker event.  SCIF members will be invited.

Interfaith Report:  Doris reported that Martin Luther King Day will be part of the season for non-violence.  Doris and Kathleen will shop for a Christmas gift for the Faith Works apartment.       

Old Business:  Our Christmas Party will be at the Morehouse’s on Sun. 12/18 at 4:30 pm. Bring a potluck dish & a gift to trade - can be homemade or recycled (Limit $10 value.)  Susie will cook a ham & vegan soup. The Youth Coordinator will visit us Feb. 3rd for Dinner Among Friends. Doris will host our guest & dinner.

News of Friends: Steve Sharpless will have surgery 12/30th; Linda Milhous is recovering from a knee replacement.
