Holly

Most house parents have the requirement to be caring, but Holly is the only one that exceeds past this requirement. She has been working at San Pasqual Academy for four years and has been a house parent for two years. She has been married to her husband Thomas for about three years. Holly recently gave birth to her first son and named him Silas. She doesn’t realize it, but her personality is contagious. It makes different people always want to be around her because she is fun to be around.

Holly, Thomas, and I were at home one afternoon in the kitchen during dinner hour and as I looked out the window, I noticed it was getting dark outside. As I continued on, I dropped my black plate of chicken and rice while trying to bring it to the table and Holly smiled at me as she walked over to help me pick up the food off of the floor. Even though she repeatedly said it was okay as she laughed it off, I was still very embarrassed and I felt bad. But I was very glad that I did something on accident without getting yelled at, because Holly is very gentle.

Holly and I were in the living room sitting on opposite brown couches watching Spongebob Squarepants around six, on a school night. At six-thirty Holly got up, declared that it was study hour, and turned off the TV. I was whining and refusing to do my homework so Holly very calmly decided to explain the negatives that had to do with not finishing my homework, so I took in a deep tiring breath, and decided to do it. In the end I was very thankful that she gave me a little push because it taught me that hard work pays off. Holly never complains when we decide not to do our chores, she will just do them for us out of generosity. Even though she was pregnant, she still did a lot for me and my housemates.

Holly, me, and Sylvia were In the kitchen on the humid night of Sylvia’s birthday. Holly came with a big meal that contained lasagna and vegetables with soda that she had prepared for Sylvia in celebration of her birthday and bought her a giant chocolate cake with flowers, which made Sylvia very excited and happy. I felt anxious for my birthday because I knew she would do the same for me. Knowing that it made Sylvia very happy, I know I would be happy too.

Had it not been for this person I would not feel as welcome or at home as I do now. Holly’s generosity has helped me to learn more about how to be kind to others. This person is a very positive asset to this facility and deserves every positive thing that is in her life.
