 Number Sense(Numbers 1-2)

The children will learn to count and make groups of 1 and 2 objects.

 The children will be able to identify the numbers 1 and 2 and will create groups of one and two objects.

  1. Distribute  two  frog and lily pad to the children.
  2. Have the children rote count from 1-5
  3.  The teacher will display the number 1 and the number 2
  4. Then teacher will ask if they recognize the numbers on my hands.
  5. have the children identify the numbers.

  1. Have the children place one frog on the lily pad.
  2. Ask the children to count the frogs and tell how many are in the lily pad.
  3. Then ask them to find the number 1.
  4. Have the children add one more frog.
  5. Have the child count and tell how many in the lily pad.
  6. Find the number to find the number 2.

Number Sense (Number 3)

The children will learn and make groups of 3 objects.

 

 The children will be able to identify the numbers 1-3 and will create groups of one to three objects.

  1.  Identify the numbers 1and 2.
  2. Introduce the the number 3.
  3. Have the children count from 1-5.
  4. Distribute lily pads and frog counters.
  5. Have the children make a group of 1 and then, make a group of two.
  6. Have the children add one more counter.
  7. Have the children count the total of counters on the lily pad.
  8. Ask, how many frogs are on the lily pad.
  9. Have the children match the group of frogs to the number 3.
  10. Have the children create groups up to four objects.
  11. Have the children count the groups and identify the corresponding numbers.

  1. Who can identify the numbers 1, 2, and 3?
  2. How can we make a group of three?
  3. How many more counters do we need to make a group of three?

 Number Sense (Number4)

The children will learn to count and make groups of 4 objects.

 The children will be able to identify the numbers 1-4 and will learn to count and make groups of 4 objects.

  1. The children will count from 1-5.
  2. The teacher will display the numbers 1-4.
  3. Have the children identify the numbers 1-4
  4. The teacher will show a string with 1 bead, then she will add 1 more.
  5. The teacher will ask the children how many beads are on the string.
  6. The teacher will add 2 more beads one at a time to the string to show numbers 1-4.
  7. The teacher will have the children count the beads on the string.
  8. Teacher will distribute the lily pads and the frog counters and have the children make groups of 1 to 4 objects.
  9. The children will match the number to the corresponding group.

 The children will learn to count and make groups of 5 objects.

 

 The children will  imitate and mine the actions of ladybugs and count how many ladybugs are there.

  1. The teacher will display numbers 1-5.
  2. Have the children identify numbers 1-5.
  3. Display the shoestring with 5 beads.
  4. Have the children count the beads.
  5. Tell the children how many beads there are in all (5).
  6. Match the group to the corresponding number.
  7. Distribute the ladybugs.
  8. The teacher will help the children make groups of 5 ladybugs.
  9. The children make groups of 1 to 4 ladybugs.
  10. Have the children identify groups from 1-5. 
  1. How many more counters in a group of 4 do you need to make a group of 5 ladybugs?

The children will complete activity page 91.         

  1. The teacher will review numbers 1-5.
  2. Have the children identify numbers 1-5.
  3. Have the children count from 1-5.

4. Distribute activity p.91

  1. Display the she string with 4 beads.
  2. Have the children count them.
  3. Then have a child add one more bead and tell how many are in all.
  4. Have the children identify the objects on the activity page.
  5. Ask the children the following questions: What are they?  What do we use them for?
  6. Have the children circle groups of 5 objects.
  7. Have the children count how many in each group and determine if its a group of 5.

 

  1. What kind of food are on the activity page?
  2. Why we should eat vegetables?
  3. How many more counters do we need in a group of 4 in order to make a group of 5?
