6th Grade Maasai Culture Project
ASIJ Tech Standards Met:

Six Facets of Understanding
Goal: Collaboratively create a multimedia presentation which highlights an element of culture as it relates to the Maasai people with the purpose of teaching the information to an audience of sixth graders
Role: Students become researchers and collaborative group members in creating original presentations which highlight their cultural element
Audience: Each other and a sixth grade class from Jakarta International School
Situation: Students choose a cultural element based on their interest and conduct research using online tools to gather information. Following, they will collaborate in small groups to share information and create a product which will be used as a teaching tool among their peers.
Product: Final products will be shared in class and online with students at Jakarta International School.

Explain: Student explain different cultural elements as related to the Maasai
Interpret: Students analyze research and communicate new understandings through a multimedia presentation of their own design
Apply: Students apply new learning to make connections and better understand their own cultures
Have perspective: Students will view each final product and discuss in groups what they considered to be effective teaching strategies
Empathize: Students will gain an appreciation of cultures different from their own and realize that sometimes others benefit from assistance
Have self-knowledge: Students will complete a reflection of their work on this project and post along with their final products on their e-portfolios
