Mon 9/10        Meet in front of Dunbar 8:30am. Leave for White Mountains  by 9am

9/10-9/20         Backpacking Trip in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  We will start with some short travel days to get used to traveling with packs on and to allow us to explore course topics, share backpacking, navigational, and camping skills, and pay attention to our own unfolding group process.  There will be some longer travel days, a layover day, a section of the hike in which the group will travel independently of instructors, and a short solo experience.  Throughout the backpacking trip, students will be asked to explore the role of the instructor through student leadership days, rigorous group observations, many opportunities to facilitate activities and discussions and to teach material, and giving and receiving feedback.  Topics to be explored in the field include:

                        Co-instructing

                        Communication skills review

                        Briefing, tonesetting, debriefing

                        Conflict management

                        Facilitation and group stages

                        Transference

                        Metaphor

                        One on one Counseling skills

                        Human nature relationship
