9/10-9/20 Backpacking Trip in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We will start with some short travel days to get used to traveling with packs on and to allow us to explore course topics, share backpacking, navigational, and camping skills, and pay attention to our own unfolding group process. There will be some longer travel days, a layover day, a section of the hike in which the group will travel independently of instructors, and a short solo experience. Throughout the backpacking trip, students will be asked to explore the role of the instructor through student leadership days, rigorous group observations, many opportunities to facilitate activities and discussions and to teach material, and giving and receiving feedback. Topics to be explored in the field include:
Communication skills review
Briefing, tonesetting, debriefing
Facilitation and group stages
One on one Counseling skills
Human nature relationship
