Dear All,

I was pleased to address you today and left in the hope for further opportunities to discuss my ongoing work with everybody who is interested. For the moment I can assure you that the problem the web project faces is not of a technical nature. It’s the willingness to accept the things one cannot change that poses constraints on the readiness to change the things one can. The hurdles I encounter are bureaucratic and in the minds of people.

Most of the work is done by myself in close collaboration with the members of your department who’s time and patience I need. In doing this I aim to keep the workload for everybody to a minimum while maintaining control over the development. If I see any real problems that would make it necessary to step outside the framework and policies of the university I see no reason not to do so. But for now I cannot really see the necessity nor the capacity.

Besides the official MU website there is a whole galaxy unfolding upon particularly young people (digital natives) that will render websites obsolete on the long run. This is already happening in other areas where communication technologies penetrates into existing environments and change the rules. Whether this is desirable or not is out of question. It will happen because it already is happening. And it is my firm believe that only as a unite can a successful marketing strategy yield the desired effect.

Attached you find a mockup of the department’s sites and a list of the persons I am in contact with from your departments. Behind this you find my weblog I entertain to keep up with the questions and activities I am engaged in here at SBE.

Most cordially,

Bernd Kapeller
