Hypothesis Practice

What is a hypothesis?  _______________________________________________________________________

When writing a hypothesis, your statement should always be written in a ________, ___________ format

EXAMPLE

Question:  Does the growth of plants increase with an additional amount of CO2?

Background Information:  CO2 is Carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is essential for healthy growth of plants.  When people talk and exhale, they are giving off carbon dioxide.  For years herbalists and plant lovers have claimed that talking to their plants helps to enhance the plants’ growth and overall health.

Hypothesis:  If additional CO2 is added to the plant, then the plant’s growth will increase.

Directions:  With a partner, obtain a baggie.  Write the question, located on the outside of the baggie, in the correct spot on this sheet (if your baggie has a number 1 on it, you will write your question by number 1 on this sheet).  Inside the baggie there will be pieces of background information that you and your partner will need to put together.  After you have read the background information, talk with your partner about a hypothesis you think best answers the question.  When a hypothesis has been agreed upon, write your hypothesis next to the question you just answered.  You will do this a total of 5 times.
