A short History about Humans

The Ancient history of the Human Race is a story whispered from star to star, a Legend told for hundreds of thousands of years. The universe is filled with countless creatures long since clairvoyant and technical who speak of a time before humans. Humans are so plentiful and fertile that they can be found living on most planets and moons, even the most inhospitable worlds. It is said that the Human creature has no boundaries, their society long since removed from its origins. Human settlers dabbled in unheard of technologies, masters of genetic manipulation, climate control, and space-time.

Sovereign Organization for Universal Law

Human beings swarm about the stars these days, their vastly superior technology landing them in control.

Human leaders in charge of StarGate and terraforming projects built an empire, called Soul. Soul’s influence grew, spanning from star to star, binding worlds by starting trade routes. It is said that the Humans control space; Taxing space travel with gate tolls and mandating a universal electronic currency for trade, Counts.

Counts have become a very widely used currency. Counts are valued on all Gated worlds, and most outer worlds. They can be exchanged for supplies, goods and equipment, or at very least, can be converted into local currency by someone who does business off-world.  

Soul is based on the planet Meta, in the Meta sector. This world functions as the political capitol and the center for Soul's infamous military. Soul is often seen only for its fearsome and brutal military. These soldiers are renowned throughout the universe for protecting planet Meta and its most valuable trade worlds.

These legendary warriors have helped Soul acquire more and more worlds. Planets requiring protection or assistance are often shanghaied into allegiance. The Military is also tasked with large scale defense, as well as preventing planets from succession, at any cost.

Soul's Military Troopers (pictured above) are highly skilled trained killers. With super-human exoskeletal armor and a range of powerful weaponry, one Soul Trooper can decimate a crew of Bounty Hunters like child's play.

StarGates

Vast technological feats have bound the Universe closer than ever before. It is said that when the humans first appeared, they brought with them an unworldly understanding of space-time. The human seeding took hundreds of thousands of years, they spread to every distant corner of the Universe implementing the vast network of StarGates that are still in use to this day.

Much of the universe still lies unexplored due to its unimaginable scale. But with the power of StarGates, any worlds with a valuable exports have been connected  trails of these Gates, allowing Starships of all purposes to travel instantaneously across the light years.

StarGates are enormous artifacts, they can be found in orbit of a large number of planets & moons. The giant rings have pierced distance and time themselves together, binding two very distant points to a common location. These StarGates make possible  continuous instantaneous travel, as well as constant transmission of signal over distances of light-years.

Peering into the StarGate, the Captain orders his Starship though. He sees only stars, But the stars inside the ring don't seem out if sync with stars around its mouth, a ring large enough to swallow a Starship three times the size of his freighter. As its sister gate orbits a far off moon, the Captain sees his destination the gas-giant Jermek simmering bright orange in the distance. The world appears from nowhere sliding into view, before setting on the other side of the ring, disappearing completely from sight.

When this StarGate was activated in ancient times, the space inside this ring had been fused to the space inside its sister ring. Permanently fixing these two points, the ring itself a kind of stitch binding the two distant locations.

To reach his destination a Starship Captain may instruct his crew though a series of these gates. While each junction may be thousands of light years apart, often zig-zagging from one side of the Universe to the opposite. This form of travel is immensely faster than flying a straight line to your destination at conventional drive speeds. Stargates are maintained by Soul, and are often accompanied by tolls. Sometimes Soul posts blockades at StarGates, Requiring passing vessels to be searched, through Soul's focus on passing Starships is primarily to gain income than find criminals.

The Chain

StarGates scattered across the heavens changed the dynamic of Society. Isolated moons are no longer years away, hundreds of planetary systems are within hours of each other. The vision set in motion by Ancient humans sparked a revolution among creatures worlds apart.

A new Universe of trade was born. Among the many sociological and economic changes, this technological revolution brought with it The Chain.

The Chain is a universal computer network utilizing the powerful StarGates to continuously transmit information to galaxies light-years away. Allowing digital information on Gated worlds to be accessed from any other system with a StarGate. A Universe wide Internet.

Government

Humanity changed everything with the invention of the StarGate, a technology that shrank the entire cosmos. Quick access to places uncountable light-years apart caused entire collections of solar systems to be organized into Sectors, each with an overall governing council of advisers, each reporting ultimately to Soul and its "Governing-Trio".

To Better explain the day to day life of a Bounty Hunter in the universe today, you'd first have to grasp the size of a universal population; Each world with its own laws and regulations. Most planets have no law-enforcement; only the more developed core worlds have established policing forces. Smaller worlds rely instead on local Militia.

Most planets are easily reached by StarGates, and most these worlds we be settled. A few might die out when terraforming projects fail. While others thrive and become sophisticated, political worlds.

The instant nature of the Universe and its constantly fluctuating world to world population makes it necessary for the Citizens themselves to handle local matters. These Bounty-Hunters fill the gaps, stepping up and putting life and limb on the line to prevent disasters, stop local conflicts, move supplies, find criminals, retrieve stolen goods, nearly any task for hire.

Guilds

Should I go freelance?

Most Bounty Hunters prefer life with a Guild. There are, however, always exceptions. Some Bounty Hunters find it liberating looking for their own jobs, hacking systems to find who's wanted by governments, confronting contacts, ex-military or government workers.

Freelance work has no perks. You find a job you can do, you do it, you get paid.

What are the Perks?

Guilds are a cushion for the collateral damage you, and your crew, are bound to cause. Guild Members have protection freelance hunters do not. Paying large upfront tickets, and facing prison time could become quite a lot of trouble. Guilds will pay any damages or legal fees related to your hunt. You'll be repaying little-by-little from your future hunts, of course.

Working for a Guild hooks you up with a collection of Bounty-Hunters just like yourself, some with similar interests and tactics. Working for a guild is an exclusive membership to an organized Guild-Master's regime.

Guild-Masters

Guild-Masters are often ex-bounty hunters themselves, masters of the hunt, experienced and ready to share insight and advice. They asses the Bounty-Hunter crews at their disposal, and choose bounties they feel a crew is likely to accomplish.

A guild master can be a highly useful source for new work, financial issues, and help with dead-ends.

History of Starship Technologies

Cargo

Modern, What we build today:

The Highest-Grade Starships feature a hangar capable of internally docking one or two star-fighters. While most just use more than capable external docks. Pressurized equipment can be stored internally in the hanger, while at least one large pressurized storage room is close by to house goods needed at quick access.

Standard, What we built yesterday:

Older starships are not capable of internally housing fighters, however most supported unpressurized cargo bays to hold equipment and supplies. Pressurized supplies may also be housed just inside the cargo bay's airlock in a receiving room.

Outdated, What we built ages ago:

The oldest of ships housed all extra cargo externally on racks on the outside of the spacecraft.

Computer 

Modern, What we build today:

Today’s shipboard computer features a full voice controlled interface linked to The Chain. Featuring a robust assortment of network abilities. All ship to ship transmission takes place over the chain, including communications and docking requests. A shipboard computer has the ability to detect the dialect of an unknown language and retrieve information to understand the dialect from The Chain. This can be used as a shipboard translator or to grant Starship control.

Starships usually lock their internal sensors and commands from other computer systems, unless in S.O.S. Mode, which renders the Starship totally open to outsiders who may be able to offer assistance.

All modern starships feature "adaptive docking" which enables for docking to any kind of port, as well as the ability to extend a standard of four meters to allow for ship to ship docking. One starship requests the permission to dock, once granted by the other ship, the computer automatically assess the abilities of each docking port and assigns male and female roles accordingly based on each ships abilities and architecture.

Standard, What we built yesterday:

Older shipboard computers featured a workstation only interface or a set of workstations, usually touch-screens. Chain-Linked for transmissions and docking requests.

These Starships featured one kind of dock, which does not adapt to other kinds of dock. Rendering them only able to dock to Starships with adaptive docks or a space-station.

Outdated, What we built ages ago:

The oldest of computer systems are incapable of connection with the Chain, while these craft have some benefits for being hard to detect and reprimand they are impossible to hail, and difficult to dock with, requiring manual control and a extended dock on the target vessel to attach to.

The oldest Starships can only dock with craft or space-stations that will allow manual docking.

Life-Support

Modern, What we build today:

All modern Starships feature floors designed to pull objects towards them. While most only effect 3-4 meters above the floor, this is more than adequate to mock gravity's effects during long space travel.

The entire ship is pressurized to your liking, and enriched with a breathable atmosphere. Waste is demolecularized and the molecules filed for later use by the computer.

Bounty Hunter Terms

Red-Tag bounty

Red-Tags are search and destroy missions. Find your target, biological or material, and kill or destroy it. Most the time footage or remains are required to validate your job before you'll receive payment.

Yellow-Tag bounty

Yellow-Tags are just shy of murder. A Yellow-Tag bounty is always a living target. Using a Cryo-Jar, a Bounty Hunter is expected to behead their target and return the subjects brain (usually still in the head) to receive payment.

Green-Tag bounty

Green-Tags are jobs where recovery is vital. A Green-Tag may be given to anything, Biological or Material. Simply put, it’s a recovery operation. Return your target intact and undamaged to receive payment.

Jarred

Jarred is a phrase affectionately used when referring to the target of a Yellow-Tag bounty.

Bounty-Prey

Living or inanimate targets that have been tagged as bounties are known as Bounty-Prey.

Worlds not formally colonized or inhabited. Some of them without atmospheres. Hospitable worlds may have some homesteaders present, though technology is very primitive. There is no law enforcement, and no organized community.

 Waste-World

These planets will be stripped of their natural resources for profit. Eventually they will be used to dispose of waste from neighboring planets.

 Geo-World

These planets are rich with metals and minerals. Some of them without atmospheres. Any inhabitants are likely miners or industrial workers. Technologies may vary.

 Gas Giant

These worlds are composed entirely of gases, making habitation nearly impossible. Very rarely will you find any life on a Gas Giant.

 Core World

These worlds are highly populated Soul Worlds with cutting edge technology. These worlds are heavily policed, often geared towards families and tourism.

 Crop World

These worlds are primarily inhabited by farmers. Most Crop Worlds are at the rear end of technology, farmers often living in primitive wooden homes, living off the land. More developed Crop Worlds may have a Sheriff for local law enforcement.

 Mech World

Mech Worlds are actually extremely large Space Stations. Entirely electronic, mechanical planetoids. Some the size of small moons, others larger than some planets.

 Industrial World

These Worlds are extremely important to modern life. Industrial worlds, are plants whose key exports are manufactured products. These range hygiene products to weapons, to Starships.
