Greetings Future Retreaters to Paraiso!

We have put together the following email to answer all of your questions and curiosities about your fabulous Yoga Retreat! Our most important objective is that you feel  both reinvigorated and restored at the end of your week-long escape.  We are committed to helping you form memories and experiences in Nicaragua that you will cherish for a lifetime.

Accommodation:

Tuition includes 6 nights and 7 days at Maderas Village, just a 5-min walk down the hill to Maderas Beach.  This hill-side oasis boasts a stunning view of Maderas Beach and surrounding area, a large beautiful yoga pavilion, wood bench communal eating/drinking area with kitchen bar, lots of hammocks and other chill hang out space.

Living space is first come, first serve.  All accommodations are brightly lit and lovely, but we will be filling the cabanas with the first 9 sign-ups, and the cottage rooms second. Tuition includes either double or triple occupancy space.  If you feel you may be more comfortable in a private room,  alone or with a partner/friend,  please let us know and we can accommodate this desire with subsequent changes in tuition.   (between $120-$240 extra)

Please check out your accommodation here: http://maderasvillage.com

Schedule:

Each day will include a brief morning group check-in and 2 daily yoga classes, one in the morning, and one in the evening.

For our afternoons, you will have a surf lesson scheduled for one afternoon, and a trip to either an Organic Farm or a local Coffee Plantation for another.  Other than that, we want to give you the afternoons free to fill as you choose; be it with surfing, getting a massage, relaxing by the beach, taking spanish lessons, exploring the local nearby town, or participating in any of the many other activities available to you.

Evenings are largely open as well.  One evening we will have a beach bonfire and tacos at Maderas Beach. This event will include a special Firedance Performance by Liana Cameris, and potentially Kristin Iannuzzelli too. (she’s workin’ up to it ;)  The ambience of Maderas Village is relaxed and social, and they serve cocktails in their dining area seven nights a week.

Tuition also includes a Friday farewell dinner at the most delicious restaurant in town, the Mediterranean inspired “El Colibri.” Friday night in San Juan del Sur can be quite the experience and we will take you to the local hot spots and set you free in town to enjoy the evening as you like, dancing, fraternizing, and drinks on you!  And we promise to get you home safe.

San Juan and the surrounding area are truly special and so much fun and we want you to be able to tailor your retreat to meet your personal needs and objectives.  If you have any specific requests or questions, please email us atretreattonicaragua@gmail.com.

Don’t forget to leave room in your schedule for your private instruction with either Kristin or Liana, an excellent opportunity to go deep and work on your personal practice with one-on-one guidance and expertise.

Add-on Activities to fill your free time: (not included in tuition)

Airport Transport:

San Juan del Sur is a short and comfortable 2 1/2 hour shuttle ride from Managua Airport. Your tuition includes transportation from/to Managua Airport to Maderas Village when you arrive between the hours of 12pm(ish) and 8 pm(ish).  If you arrive outside of this time frame, we will be happy to help you to arrange an affordable private transport to Maderas Village.

Managua Airport is clean, safe, and modern by Central American standards.  The longest you should have to wait for a shuttle is approximately 1 hr 1/2. Please send us your flight info as soon as possible so we can group students into shuttle groups.

Board:

You will be served a light fruit-based snack before each morning yoga class, and 3 full meals each day, cooked fresh in Maderas Village kitchen.  Maderas Village boasts a strictly pescatarian and vegetarian menu consisting of fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.  Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase during meals and in the evening.

As mentioned above, one dinner will be a beach bonfire taco-fest, and another a farewell dinner at El Colibri.

Culture and Climate:

Nicaragua and her people embody a rich and vibrant latino culture.  In general, Nicaragüense (Nicaraguans) are friendly, passionate, family-oriented and, not surprisingly, very laid back.  In Nicaragua, life dances to the beat of a slower drum.  That is, of course, unless you're on the actual dance floor!

For the greater part of 2 decades, Nicaragua has enjoyed a time of political and social peace and has slowly but surely begun to build a thriving tourism industry in Central America.  Still greatly untouched and in the budding stages of tourism, Nicaragua offers a truly unique and authentic cultural experience to the traveler.

The time period of late May and early June is a lovely time of year in Nicaragua, and the beginning of the "rainy season."  Average daily temperatures range between about 73 to 90 F.  It can get quite warm this time of year, and lucky for us, many days enjoy a brief and pleasant light rain.  Don't let yourself be discouraged by the words "rainy season" as during this time of year many days will not experience any rain at all!  The heavier daily rain will not arrive until late July, Aug., Sept. and Oct.
