What is Coalition of the Wiling?

The Coalition started as a film and has grown into a movement. The film proposes an open source approach to the war on global warming. The movement explores the social and technological dimensions of the CotW vision, while broadening the message to speak to the concerns of a range of campaigns and organizations.

The film won the Grand Jury Award at the 2010 Hampton International Film Festival ('Real Life' category) and the Waverley Award for Best Environmental Short at FlickerFest Sydney. It was shortlisted for the 2010 Vimeo film awards (out of 6500 entries). The film has been nominated for a Brit Insurance Design Award. The Design Award is hosted by the London Design Museum. Coalition of the Willing will screen at the Design Museum through February and March 2011.

Since the film was realeased, a broader Coalition has gathered about the project. We are advocates of open, sustainable culture. We see ourselves as part of the larger 'Great Transition' underway.

One thing that distinguishes Coalition of the Willing from other online networks is our open approach to leadership. We believe in emergent leadership. Swarms take shape through emergent leadership, as people step up to pursue common goals independently and collectively. OpenKollab's project matching initiative offers a way of mapping the topography of the swarm.

If you'd like to learn more about Coalition of the Willing, the place to start is http://cotw.cc, our community wiki and routing portal into the Coalition. We use the open governance system BetterMeans as a workflow management system. We have a blog, a wiki translations project, and various other projects on the boil. We keep an active and provocative Facebook page @coalitionfilm, with 4500 fans and counting.
