2012 Playoff Structure and Rules

U10 Playoff Format:

  1. Seeded Bracket Play with Consolation Bracket.
  1. A team that loses on Day 1 of the playoffs, enters the “Consolation Bracket”.  A team that loses after Day 1 of the playoffs is eliminated.
  1. Bracket match-ups will conform to standard tournament brackets.
  2. See “under 10” under Playoff Formats/Brackets.

U10 Playoff Rules:

  1. Teams must have accumulated 15 referee points to be eligible to advance as a winner of a game.
  2. Teams will be seeded according to the Region’s Standings/Seeding Determination policy (found on the Rules & Guidelines page under the Info & FAQs tab.)
  3. Any team “ineligible to advance”, plays their first game as usual, but is considered the loser of that game, regardless of result.  They then play their second game (in the consolation bracket), and again is the considered the loser regardless of the result.  They are then eliminated after two games.  Their opponent (regardless of result) is considered the winner and advances in either bracket.
  4. In the event that two teams “ineligible to advance” meet, the winner of the game advances in either bracket as the winner (until that team plays against an “eligible team”).
  5. All division guidelines apply, including 3/4 playing time  (excluding overtime) and goalkeeper policies.
  6. All games must have a winner.
  7. Overtime rules:
  1. Two 5-minute overtime periods
  2. Kicks from the Penalty Mark
  3. See Area 1P Tournament Guidelines for overtime details.


U12 Format:

  1. Seeded Double Elimination Bracket Play
  2. Bracket match-ups will conform to standard tournament brackets.
  3. See “under 12” under Playoff Formats/Brackets.
  4. If game 18.5 becomes necessary it will be a 30-minute game (15 minute halves).

U12 Playoff Rules:

  1. Teams must have accumulated 15 volunteer points to be eligible to advance as a winner of a game.
  2. Teams will be seeded according to the Region’s Standings/Seeding Determination policy (found on the Rules & Guidelines page under the Info & FAQs tab.)
  3. Any team “ineligible to advance”, plays their first game as usual, but is considered the loser of that game, regardless of result.  They then play their second game (in the loser’s bracket), and again is the considered the loser regardless of the result.  They are then eliminated after two games.  Their opponent (regardless of result) is considered the winner and advances in either bracket.
