The signs read, 'Project funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.'

In the first place, they're not funded by any act, but by the American taxpayer.

This type of government self-promotion is eerily reminiscent of dictatorial governments in modern history that not only deprived their citizens of freedom and private property but also demanded to be glorified for the morsels they doled back out to them."

Meanwhile, the first of many drilling rigs has begun sailing away from the Gulf. Diamond Offshore announced last week that its Ocean Endeavor rig is now bound for Egyptian waters. Don't look for it, or any others, to return soon, either: Estimates put the earliest possible return at a decade or more, given the time and expense associated with these moves.

And therein lies the real goal: Stall, foot-drag, litigate and obfuscate long enough to render the issue moot.

Once the rigs are gone, who cares if the ban is operative?

This piece of the dismantling of America will have been completed by that time, moratorium or not.

Seriously, there are only two things needed to drive effectively in NJ:

A horn and a middle finger.  Everything else is superfluous, including knowing where you are going.

For those of you who live in Jersey or have lived there, these things may come as no surprise.  For those who haven't travelled there before,

Beware, Be Prepared and Be Afraid,,,, Be Very Afraid.

  1. You must first learn to pronounce the city name, it is Nork - rhymes with Fork, not New-ark.  Also, Trenton is not pronounced Tren-ton, it is Trent-in.

  2. The morning rush hour is from 5 AM to NOON. The evening rush hour is from NOON to 7 PM.   Friday's rush hour starts on Thursday morning.

  3. The minimum acceptable speed on the turnpike is 85 mph. On the parkway it's 105 or 110.  Anything less is considered "Sissy.." (Just ask the former Governor of NJ)

  4. Forget the traffic rules you learned elsewhere. Jersey has its own version of traffic rules.   For example, cars/trucks with the loudest muffler go first at a four-way stop;  the trucks with the biggest tires go second; However, in Monmouth and Burlington counties, SUV-driving, cellphone-talking moms ALWAYS have the right of way.

  5. If you actually stop at a yellow light, you will be rear ended, cussed out, and possibly shot.

  6. Never honk at anyone.  EVER !  Seriously.  It's another offense that can get you shot.

  7. Road construction is permanent and continuous in all of Jersey .  Detour barrels are moved around for your entertainment pleasure during the middle of the night to make the next day's driving a bit more exciting.

  8. Watch carefully for road hazards such as drunks, skunks, dogs, cats, barrels, cones, celebs, rubber-neckers, shredded tires, cell-phoners, deer and other road kill, and the homeless feeding on any of these items.

  9. MapQuest does NOT work here -- none of the roads are where they say they are or go where they say they do and all the Turnpike EZ Pass lanes are moved each night once again to make your ride more exciting.

  10. If someone actually has their Turn Signal ON, wave them to the shoulder immediately to let them know it has been "accidentally activated."

  11. If you are in the left lane and only driving 70 in a 55-65mph zone, you are considered  a road hazard and will be "flipped off" accordingly.  If you return the flip, you'll be shot.

  12. Do not try to estimate travel time -- just leave Monday afternoon for Tuesday appointments, by noon Thursday for Friday appointments, and right after church on Sunday for anything on Monday morning.

  SAFE DRIVING ! ! !

DEM-SPEAK IDIOCY  By Neal Boortz

We have now reached the point where the looters can take money from a producer, hand it to a moocher, and call it a tax cut for the moocher. Here's how. It's called a "refundable tax credit."

The looters pass a bill containing a $3000 "tax credit" for people earning under a certain amount. They call this a tax cut ... and it is, for people who actually owe $3000 or more in federal income taxes.

Now ... here comes the oddly-named "refundable" part. If the person eligible for the tax credit owes no income tax to the federal government - or if he owes less than the amount of the credit - the remaining balance of the credit is simply paid to the individual.

That means that people who already pay no federal income tax at all .. and that's almost 50% of all wage-earners in this country .. simply get a check from the government (money seized from actual taxpayers) in the amount of $3000. What's more ... this $3000 is called a "tax cut!"

Don't you just love it! The looters seize the money from the producers, hand it to the moochers .. and tell the moochers they're getting a tax cut.

Go ahead - if you really want to screw up what's left of your credit rating engage one of these companies to help you avoid your debts. “… But if Barack Obama is trying to implode the system, and he is to succeed in doing so, how does he know that the people of this nation will not revolt?

Does he assume that people will simply demand a government that makes all of their decisions for them? Perhaps he knows that this is a failing battle, but he realizes that if we manage to teeter for years on the edge, at least he will have accelerated the decline for fundamental transformation, swelling the public payroll and finances, sufficiently hobbling the private sector, weakening our morale and making people exponentially more reliant on government.

Even if he cannot push all the way to totalitarian collectivism, he can still get us close enough that is almost impossible to repeal massive statism."

"We are what we repeatedly do.

Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit."

         - Aristotle

"In his major addresses, Obama's modesty about his own country has been repeatedly on display as, in one venue after another, he has gratuitously confessed America's alleged failing -- from disrespecting foreigners to having lost its way morally after 9/11. It's fine to recognize the achievements of others and be non-chauvinistic about one's country.

But Obama's modesty is curiously selective. When it comes to himself, modesty is in short supply. It began with the almost comical self-inflation of his presidential campaign, from the still inexplicable mass rally in Berlin in front of a Prussian victory column to the Greek columns framing him at the Democratic convention.

And it carried into his presidency, from his posture of philosopher-king adjudicating between America's sins and the world's to his speeches marked by a spectacularly promiscuous use of the first-person pronoun -- I. Notice, too, how Obama habitually refers to Cabinet members and other high government officials as 'my' -- 'my secretary of homeland security,' 'my national security team,' 'my ambassador.'

The more normal -- and respectful -- usage is to say 'the,' as in 'the secretary of state.' These are, after all, public officials sworn to serve the nation and the Constitution -- not just the man who appointed them.

It's a stylistic detail, but quite revealing of Obama's exalted view of himself.

Not surprising, perhaps, in a man whose major achievement before acceding to the presidency was writing two biographies -- both about himself.

Obama is not the first president with a large streak of narcissism. But the others had equally expansive feelings about their country. Obama's modesty about America would be more understandable if he treated himself with the same reserve. What is odd is to have a president so convinced of his own magnificence -- yet not of his own country's."

I would propose that every single time a lawmaker proposes an earmark as part of an appropriations bill in Washington the request must be in writing and the Taxpayer's Addendum should be added to the request. Here's how it might read:

"I, ___ (politician's name) ________ do hereby swear and affirm that it is my considered position and belief that it is more important for the government to spend the necessary sums for the completion of the project outlined herein than it would be for the person who actually worked for and earned these funds to be permitted to retain those funds for the payment of their person expenses; including expenses related to basic necessities of life such as food, transportation, shelter, clothing and healthcare."

How many of these politicians do you think would be willing to actually walk up to a wage earner and physically take the money out of that person's pocket to pay for some of this pork?

TheRoot.com, a website devoted to black issues, carries an interesting essay by Sophia Nelson titled "Should Black Folks Give the Tea Party a Second Look?" She answers in the affirmative:

In the final analysis, I think we would all be wise to consider what Thomas Jefferson warned: "Every generation needs a new revolution."

Does anyone among us really believe that government knows what is best for our lives?

Does anyone among us really believe that paying more taxes will solve what is wrong with the poorest and least among us?

Perhaps the African-American community needs to consider what we can do to secure our own economic wealth and our own individual liberties.

Make no mistake--we are in perilous times, and to sit by passively and do nothing in the face of such deprivation is against all that we as Americans stand for.

Remember when Ronald Reagan was president,

we also had Bob Hope and Johnny Cash still with us...

Peter Roff of U.S. News & World Report, meanwhile, relays an ingenious idea:

Both sides are missing the boat in what could otherwise be a teachable moment that, as former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says, could draw both organizations toward a focus on finding solutions to America 's most pressing problems.

The leaders of the Tea Party movement at the local level, Gingrich suggested to me Thursday, should approach the local chapters of the NAACP with an open invitation to cohost town hall meetings on the subject of America 's future.

It's an idea more in line with conciliation than with the confrontational style for which Gingrich is perhaps better known. It is a powerful one, seizing upon a moment very much in the spotlight in a creative way to the betterment of all concerned.

If the Tea Party movement is too white, what better way could there be to help integrate it?

And extending such an invitation to the NAACP would challenge the group to prove that it is interested in racial amity rather than in promoting division for partisan ends.

All 10,000 Crime Victim Visas Issued

The government has issued all 10,000 visas available this year for immigrant crime victims who help authorities investigate and prosecute perpetrators.

The last of this fiscal year's supply of visas was approved Thursday morning, marking the first time the government has hit the statutory "U" visa limit since the program became active two years ago.

The visas were created as part of the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000. They are given to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and other crimes in exchange for cooperation with law enforcement.

In 2007, attorneys for immigrants who had been victims of crime sued the federal government for failing to issue any visas.

Only 52 were issued in 2008.

About 6,000 applications were approved last fiscal year.

$20 MILLION SPENT ON STIMULUS SIGNS?

The Aramaic words for “devil” and “demon,” as used in the Bible, are “shida” and “shidana.” More often than not, they were used to refer to a person who had weird ideas, or people who talked too much, or to anyone whose actions were out of favor. So, when the term, “cast out demons” [Matt. 10:8; Mark 3:15; Mark 16:17] is used by Jesus, it refers not only to the healing of mentally unbalanced or insane people. It also refers to helping people who have the wrong outlook on Life—people who have become confused in their political or their religious views. In the context of this usage, certainly, many people today could be said to be possessed by demons. Their outlook on life causes them to pay, what I call, “the hidden luxury tax of negative thinking,” because they do not see themselves rightly, because they view the world with “dark colored glasses,” because they have negative attitudes. They are constantly building up for themselves poisons in their human system, as a result of emotional re-charging of the consciousness of the individual, and they pay “the hidden luxury tax.”

These people are the problem .... these politicians are so full of themselves that they can't even realize that THEY are the problem.

They are so set on being the ones to get the credit for saving this economy that they are willing to let businesses and worker suffer, just so they can say they tried.

If they succeeded, that would be great. But they aren't.

Persons who are frequently angry, resentful, and irritated seem to have been cursed with many things that disturb them. But, even an elemental knowledge of psychology reveals that the real cause is inward unrest, which may well be the product of hurt pride or frustration.

When we are upset, it is because in some way, we have become “upsettable.” If we are irritated, it is because we are “irritate-able.”

The problem is within ourselves. The person has not upset us. The person has simply provided us with a marvelous opportunity to be upset, because we have allowed ourselves to get into that position, but the upsetting is in ourselves.

The incident is external. The reaction is our own.

As National Review's economics editor Larry Kudlow points out, that's $3 trillion dollars being held in the private sector that could be financing the greatest job-creation and business growth. "It is not a perfect bill; I will be the first to admit that.

We don't know ultimately how well the ideas we've incorporated here will achieve the results we desire.

It will take the next economic crisis, as certainly it will come, to determine whether or not the provisions of this bill

will actually provide this generation or the next generation of regulators

with the tools necessary to minimize the effects of that crisis when it happens."

This is the guy charged with the task of saving our economy from any future crisis?

We're going to have to wait for another economic crisis to find out whether or not this financial reform bill the Democrats passed yesterday is going to work?

I need more luggage.
