Benton County Republican Women of Oregon

January 24, 2011 - The BCRW met at King Tin Restaurant in Corvallis. Stella Guenther gave a "Dictionary Presentation" to four 4th Grade Students so members could see the presentation as Stella does it in the classroom. Former Oregon State Representative Betsy Close was our guest speaker. Rep. Close discussed techniques of lobbying the Oregon Legislature and gave tips on giving testimony before legislative committees. “It is vitally important that Oregonians track important legislation in the 2011 Session, exercising their right to speak and give testimony. We should make our opinions known to our elected representatives,” stated Close. Rep. Betsy Close served Oregon House District 15 for six years and was the Republican nominee for Oregon Secretary of State in 2004. She resides in North Albany.

February 28, 2011 (No General Meeting held) - In place of their regular meeting date, the BCRW worked on and supported the Linn and Benton County Republican Lincoln Day Celebration and Benefit Auction, which was held on Feburary 12th at the CH2M Hill Alumni Center.

March 28, 2011 - Benton County Republican Women (BCRW) met at King Tin Restaurant, 1857 NW 9th St, Corvallis, OR 97330, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Dr. Art Robinson, 2012 Congressional District 4 candidate, was the guest speaker. Dr. Robinson gave a brief recap of his 2010 run for CD4 and offered new strategies from what he learned.  These lessons should be helpful to future Republican Candidates.

April 18, 2011 - PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE from April 25 due to speaker scheduling. The meeting was held at King Tin Restaurant and focused on “Do we need more taxes?” Joel Hirsch, Corvallis City Councilman for Ward 6 and John Detweiler, Certified Tax Annalist and Treasurer for Benton County Republicans gave presentations on the Corvallis Measure 02-74. Sarah Ross from Cascade Policy Institute reported on Oregon legislation. Though CPI is non-partisan, Sarah generally follows bills that draw the concern of conservatives. A drawing for door prizes was held for those who have paid their 2011 Membership Fee.

May 23, 2011 - The Benton County Republican Women met at King Tin Restaurant, 1857 NW 9th St, Corvallis, OR (map), from 11:30am to 1pm. Those wishing to eat lunch were encouraged to come early to order. Mimi Stout of Alsea, Oregon spoke on the Benton County Riparian Project, regarding new rules and regulations on water from the Alsea River, its tributaries and area wetlands to ditches and eventually all water in the County, and how it will effect land owners. The DVD Movie, "Iranium" was to be played but the video equipment did not work properly.

June 27, 2011 - The Benton County Republican Women met at 11am at King Tin Restaurant, 1857 NW 9th St. in Corvallis (map). Lunch was optional between 11 and 11:30. Guest Irene Johnson, President of Benton County Right to Life, showed the documentary “Blood Money” narrated by Dr. Alveda King (1 hour). Contact number is 541-745-5374.

July 25, 2011 - The Benton County Republican Women met at the beautiful North Albany hilltop home of Patty Robidart for their annual summer potluck. Patty is an artist and artistry abounds in her home and backyard garden with meandering pathways and special points of interest at every turn. Nancy Judd conducted a presentation of the beautiful Lia Sophia jewelry line, which offers fundraising opportunities for organizations.

August 2011 - In place of our regular 4th Monday of the month meeting, the BCRW manned their annual booth promoting 'Liberty' at the Benton County Fair and assisted with the Benton County Republican booth. NO MEETING ON AUG. 22.

September 26, 2011 - The Benton County Republican Women will hold an evening meeting at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 NW Monroe Ave., Corvallis, OR at 7:00 p.m. Topic: "Do you want the government to micromanage your life?" Refreshments will be served.

October 24, 2011 - The Benton County Republican Women will meet at 11:30 a.m. at King Tin Restaurant, 1857 NW 9th St. in Corvallis.  Our guest speaker is Manuel (Manny) J. Martinez, who will speak on the similarities he sees in the United States to what he lived through in his native Cuba during the Cuban Revolution and ultimately under the Communist regime of Fidel Castro.

Manuel J. Martinez was born, raised, and educated in Cuba. Manny came to the USA in 1963 after having lived under the first five years of the Castro Communist regime. Manny's experience qualifies him as an expert observer of how Communists operate as they take over a country. ✧ Manny served in the USA Army under a special program for Cubans. Upon completion of this program he became part of the "inactive Reserves of the USA Army." ✧ Mr. Martinez and his wife, Ena Martinez, became citizens of the United States of America in the 1970s. Mr. and Mrs. Martinez have three children and seven grandchildren. ✧ After a career as an Accountant/Auditor, Manny retired, and has since written and published several anti-Communist articles and is an active public speaker raising the warning concerning Communism and its destructive influence. Manny and his wife life in Salem Oregon.

November 28th - The Benton County Republican Women met at the Corvallis Public Library 645 NW Monroe in Corvallis. There was a get acquainted social at 6:30 and speakers at 7pm. Weekly radio show co-host “ The Teacher and the Preacher” on KPDQ will spoke on Israel and current events. Pastor David McGarrah and Mr. Schiffman, an Orthodox Jew frequently present seminars to civic groups, schools, and synagogues on Israel, Jewish religion , history, and contemporary Jewish Issues. ✧ The Teacher, Mr. Schiffman holds a B.A. degree in Anthropology from Rhodes College in Memphis, a J.D. (Law) degree from the University of Memphis Law School. The Hebrew Union college of New York City granted him the degree of Doctor of Jewish Communal Service, honoris causa in 2004. ✧ The Preacher, David McGarrah serves as pastor of Salem First Church of the Nazarene. He also serves as president of “ Master Mind Ministries”. Pastor Dave has traveled to Israel over 20 times while pasturing for 35 years. He presently is the Oregon state representative for Christians United For Israel.

December 12th - The Benton County Republican Women held their annual Christmas Potluck Luncheon from 11:30am to 1:00pm at Kings Circle Assembly of God Church, 2110 Northwest Circle Boulevard in Corvallis. All enjoyed a festive potluck, Christmas music, guest speakers from the Oregon Federation of Republican Women (OFRW) and the installation of BCRW's officers for 2012-13.
