B Period, Civil Rights Movement Assignment!
Hi! Guess what? I’m telling you the prompt for the #4 mini-essay question which will appear on the Civil Rights Paper 1 Test you will have next FRIDAY, MAY 20. Here it is:
To what extent did the methods and goals of the Civil Rights Movement shift significantly from the mid-1960’s onwards?
This homework assignment is meant to help you prepare to respond to the above essay prompt. If everyone follows through on his or her portion of the work, we’ll be able to cover a large amount of information without it being such a labor intensive process.
You will be using that awesome Eyes on the Prize site I’ve shown that breaks down the “Story of the Movement.” In class, with readings and the documentary we’ve covered 1-10, but now it’s time to figure out what the heck happens after 1965!!
Everyone is assigned to cover two events. Check the list below for which events you are responsible for:
11 and 12- Amy, Ian B., Anna, Lauren and Johnny
13 and 14- Ian D., Ben, Steve-O, Maret
15 and 16- Sam, Haley, Alex, Kylie
17 and 18- Alex M., Lucie, Dorrie, Julia
21 and 22- Amanda, Stephanie, D.J., Bridget

Instructions:
Part I--
As you read about your assigned events, take notes. You will need to teach your classmates about these events, so make sure you have these notes handy in class on MONDAY, MAY 16. Explore the other tabs about the event (Context, Press, Music, etc...).
Part II--
Create a new post on YOUR history blog, and respond to the following question(s):
How can you use the events you researched to help you respond to the prompt, “To what extent did the methods and goals of the Civil Rights Movement shift significantly from the mid-1960’s onwards?” What changes in methods and goals did you identify?
You will also be discussing this with your classmates, so please make sure that you are ready to do so.
