RESEARCH

Real-time Visualization & Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality

Explores the interactive virtual reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) system, and real time rendering for architectural visualization.

Parametric Design & Computation

The application of various parametric design techniques including digital modeling, non-linear thinking, and generative design. Building is constructed as an information model containing a large quantity of parameters that can be computed in various design phases.

Digital Fabrication

The integration of digital fabrication technologies including laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC milling, and Robot into the parametric design pipeline. Prototyping by various computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software.

Performance Driven Design & Simulation

The simulation and analysis of building performance in the relation to the environmental, structural, and social parameters. Topics include wayfinding, crowd behavior, agent-based system, solar, thermal, and energy analysis, form validation, genetic evolution based form seeking and design optimization methods.

Geography Information System (GIS) & Urban Simulation

Explores various approaches of using GIS data to study social, economic and geospatial information and their relationships to the urban form.

Sustainable Urbanism in the Global Perspective

Research on various urban design issues during the rapid urbanization in China. Multidisciplinary research with architecture, urban design, city planning and environmental engineering.
