A-Line Elegant Gown

Measurements:

Fits one of Fiona McDonald’s smaller Babes dolls (Making the Body - Miranda, Rose & Chloe), it may also fit her smaller dolls in Gothic Knits.

Materials:

NOTE: I made this with the same weight yarn, and same needle size as the doll I made. (For example, I used worsted weight yarn and size 3 needles to make my doll AND to make the dress, so act accordingly)

Less than 1 skein of dress color (Mine was in worsted weight)
One set of double pointed needles. {I used US3/3.25 mm} (You wont’ need these if you decide to knit it flat)
One set of straight needles.
Small amounts of metalic yarn in DK weight (Optional)
Tapestry needle.
Stitch holders.
Scissors.

Vocabulary:

K = Knit

P = Purl

K2tog = Knit 2 together

P2tog= Purl 2 together

SSK = Slip knitwise, Slip knitwise, Knit

P2togTBL = Purl 2 together through the back loop

sts = stitches

SS = Stockinet stitch

Inc1 = Knit front and Back of stitch

Knitting Dress In The Round

Frills (make eight):

Note: Instead of making these frills, you could also cast on 56sts and work several rows of garter stitch for the bottom.

Using size US2 (2.75 mm) needles cast on 1 st.

Row 1: (WS) inc 1 st in first st [2 st].

Row 2: knit.

Row 3: YO, k2 [3 st].

Row 4: YO, K1, YO, K2 [5 st].

Row 5: YO, K2tog, P1, K2.

Row 6: YO, K2tog, knit to end.

Row 7: YO, K2tog, P1, K2.

Row 8: YO, K2tog, YO, K2, YO, K2 [7 st].

Row 9: YO, K2tog, K1, P1, K3.

Row 10: YO, K2tog, knit to end.

Row 11: YO, K2tog, K1, P1, K3.

Slide onto stitch holder with the side with the “knit” column down the middle showing forward.

Dress:

Align all 8 frills in a row, dividing stitches between three needles.

Rows 1-20: Work 20 rows of SS.

Row 21: (K12, K2tog) four times [52 sts].

Rows 22-41: Work 20 rows of SS.

Row 42: (K2tog, K11, K2tog) four times [48 sts].

Rows 43-68: Work 26 rows of SS.

Row 69: (K2tog, K20, K2tog) twice [44 sts].

Row 70: Knit.

Row 71: (K2tog, K16, K2tog) twice [40 sts].

Row 72: Knit.

Row 73: (K2tog, K12, K2tog) twice [36 sts].

Rows 74-78: Work 4 rows of SS.

Row 79: (Inc1, K12, Inc 1) twice [40 sts].

Row 80: Knit.

Row 81: (Inc1, K16, Inc1) twice [44 sts].

Row 82: Knit.

Row 83: (Inc1, K20, Inc1) twice [48 sts].

Rows 84-85: Work SS for 2 rows.

Front:

Place back 24 sts onto a stitch holder.

Row 86: Knit across, CO 30 sts [54 sts].

Row 87: Purl across, CO 30 sts [84 sts].

Rows 88-90: Work SS for 3 rows.

Left Side:

Row 91: Purl 42 sts (work these 42 sts only), place right 42sts on Stitch Holder.

Row 92: K1, (SSK) twice, knit to the end [40sts].

Row 93: Purl to the last 5 sts, (P2togTBL) twice, P1 [38sts].

Row 94: K1, (SSK) twice, knit to the end [36 sts].

Row 95: Purl to the last 5 sts, (P2togTBL) twice, P1 [34sts].

Row 96: K1, (SSK) twice, knit to the end [32sts].

Rows 97-99: Work 3 rows of SS.

Place these sts on a stitch holder.

Right Side:

Reconnect right 42 sts and start with the Purl side.

Row 91: Purl across.

Row 92: Knit to last 5 sts, (K2tog) twice, K1 [40 sts].

Row 93: P1, (P2tog) twice, Purl to the end [38 sts].

Row 94: Knit to the last 5 sts, (K2tog) twice, K1 [36sts].

Row 95: P1, (P2tog) twice, Purl to the end [34sts].

Row 96: Knit to the last 5 sts, (K2tog) twice, K1 [32sts].

Rows 97-99: Work 3 rows of SS.

Place these sts back on stitch holder.

Back:

Reconnect back sts and start with a knit row.

Row 1: Knit across, CO 30 sts [54 sts].

Row 2: Purl across, CO 30 sts [84 sts].

Row 3: Knit across.

Row 4: P32, CO Knitwise 20sts, P32 (work these 32 sts only).

Sleeve:

Rows 5-12: Work SS for 10 rows.

Use Kitchener stitch (Kitchener Stitch) to graft front 32 sts of sleeves, to back 32 sts of sleeves.

Re-attach yarn to the other back sleeve, and work SS for 11 rows, then graft to the other front sleeve.

Row 94: K1, (SSK) twice, knit to the end [37 sts].

Work Row 1-85 of Front of dress.

Row 86: Knit across, CO 30 sts [54 sts].

Row 87: Purl across, CO 30 sts [84 sts].

Row 88: Knit across.

Row 89: P32, CO Knitwise 20sts, P32 (work these 32 sts only).

Sleeve:

Rows 90-99: Work SS for 10 rows.

Use Kitchener stitch (Kitchener Stitch) to graft front 32 sts of sleeves, to back 32 sts of sleeves.

Re-attach yarn to the other back sleeve, and work SS for 11 rows, then graft to the other front sleeve.

Making Up:

Sew up sides of dress, and bottoms of sleeves.
