“STATE” OF THE ECONOMY PRESENTATION

Your assignment is to create a descriptive Powerpoint / Prezi complete with economic data, charts, and pictures describing the economy of the US state of your choice. You may work with one other partner.

  1. Go to FRED: http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/ . Or just Google “FRED”
  2. Under Categories, click Regional Data  States  click on a state to research.
  3. Go to Real Total Gross Domestic Product and copy and paste graph to POWERPOINT / PREZI. Also do the same for levels per capita, found on the same page.  Also, research your state’s GDP per capita ranking, compared to the other 50 states (find data from your teacher, or by your own research). Then describe how the state’s GDP per capita compares to the US GDP per capita, which is currently $ _____________.  
  4. Now find your states “Unemployment Rate.” And put this on your POWERPOINT / PREZI.
  5. From the FRED Home page, scroll down to the “Popular Data Series” and click on “Civilian Unemployment Rate,” for the United States, and put this graph on your POWERPOINT / PREZI and compare this graph to your state’s Unemployment rate on your POWERPOINT / PREZI.  
  6. Then do some additional research the state economy.  Please use pictures and/or charts that will help understand your state’s economy.

  2. What are the biggest employers?
  3. What are the tax rates in the state (ex. sales tax, income tax)?
  4. What are some other important facts about the state’s economy?  
  5. What are any other interesting facts about your state?
  1. Also include a conclusion, in your own words, with a summary of this state’s economic performance.  
  2. Please list your sources at on your POWERPOINT / PREZI.  Please use MLA format.  You may use www.easybib.com for your citations.

An effective POWERPOINT / PREZI should include all of the steps listed above, and additional information you have found in your research, and include pictures that compliment you POWERPOINT / PREZI.

POWERPOINT / PREZI’s will be graded on quality of research and data, presentation quality, visual appeal, and fulfilling or going beyond all of the minimum requirements.
