Notes on Ken's mix cd

Song 1 – Hellyeah “Cowboy Way”: Starts off almost Korn-ish, but is clearly not Korn when the vocals start in. Vocally reminds me of Drowning Pool. I like the lead guitar more than anything. About how badass cowboys can be, apparently.

Song 2 – 12 Stones “We Are One”: Generic modern rock. Could be Breaking Benjamin, could be Hoobastank.

Song 3 – 2Cents “Get What?”: Kind of Disturbed. Rock'n'roll song about fucking, of course, they didn't have the balls or thought they were being clever by not actually saying it. Liked the solo once again.

Song 4 – Bullet for My Valentine “Your Betrayal”: Emo lyrics in metal music clothing. Decent dynamics.

Song 5 – Breaking Benjamin “I Will Not Bow”: Too polished. Not inherently bad, but nothing that makes me want to hear the rest.

Song 6 – Ozzy “Soul Sucker”: Apparently Ozzy's been listening to Alice in Chains, who of course listened to copious amounts of Sabbath... but seeing as though the song is obviously modernly produced, he managed to rip himself off twice. He does get off the AiC kick 3 minutes in.

Song 7 – OTEP “Smash the Control Machine”: Musically decent, don't enjoy the vocal stylings of the singer, and she apes RATM and System of a Down. Keep the politics out and stick to rocking.

Song 8 – Nonpoint “Miracle”: Disturbed again, except for a breakdown that lasted an all-to-short 8 seconds.

Song 9 – Sevendust “Unraveling”: Generic sounding. Same old subject matter. Haven't changed much since “Bitch” and “Black” except maybe to become even more middling.

Song 10 – Hawthorne Heights “Gravestones”: Ooh, a different, alt-country opening. Only different-sounding song on the disc. My Chemical Romance.

Song 11 – Flyleaf “Fully Alive” - Nothing special.

Song 12 – The Fallen “Bury Me Alive”: Evanescence 2.0

Song 13 – Killswitch Engage “Holy Diver”: Enjoyed it except when the vocalist got all screamo.

Song 14 – Machinehead “Hallowed be Thy Name”: Throwback metal. Almost prog rockish.

Song 15 – Mudvayne “Scream With Me”: I like the opening. Not a bad song, but still sounds like everything else.

Song 16 – Three Days Grace “The Good Life”: 12 Stones could've done this. Right down to the whoa-oh-oh-oh backing vocals

Song 17 – Egypt Central “You Make Me Sick”: More generic modern rock.

Song 18 – Bloodsimple “Dead Man Walking”: Disturbed once again.

Song 19 – Skillet “Monster” - Meh.

Very disappointed that, though the last song ended around the 3:00 mark, the last track lasted to almost 6 minutes, yet there was nothing. No burps, farts, or anything... you're slipping.
