Maya (16) Create a space craft--flying saucer
Objective: SWBAT effectively use Maya 2012 to create objects using the revolve, duplicate, and assign new materials procedures. Standard: Understand and apply media techniques and processes.

2. Create the space craft. Follow the handout .

Start Maya
Turn off interactive by during the following: go up to create > Nurbs Primitives> Interactive Creation. Make sure it is unchecked.
Also Turn off interactive for polygons by during the following: go up to create > Polygon Primitives> Interactive Creation. Make sure it is unchecked.
You will create the spacecraft by during the following:
In Maya, go to side view. Change the Menu to Surfaces.
On the main menu go to create to CV curve tool.
Draw points on the right side of the Y axis similar to this:
Click on the select tool. The curve turns green.
On the main menu, go to surfaces to revolve. Once revolved, go to perspective view. Press 5 on the keyboard to smooth shade all.
Look at your spacecraft.
Make adjustments if needed by doing the following:
Deselect the space craft. On the curve line, right mouse button and choose control vertex. Place the move tool on the point you want to move--but on the line. Move the point at desired position. (Refer to tutorial on revolve)
Add light bulbs by doing the following:
Go to top view. Set it in wireframe.
On the main menu, go to create to polygon primitive sphere.
Duplicate the sphere by doing the following:
Go to edit to duplicate special to option box. In the Duplicate Special Option box go to edit to reset settings.
Make the number of copies: 2. Click Duplicate Special.
use your move tool and position the spheres as shown.
Go to four views. Position each sphere so that it is slightly showing out of the body of the spacecraft as shown below.
name the parts by doing the following: select the body of the space craft. Open the channel box and name it saucerBody.
Now select the middle light on the saucer. Name it light1.
Name the other lights as light2, and light3.
Group the lights to the saucer by doing the following:
Shift select the lights one at a time then select the saucerBody last. The body must be selected last. The last item selected will be green.
