Simsbury, CT - Colorado continues to show its dominance with impressive performances during their post season run. There hasn’t been any major hiccups so far by the Thunderbirds. They rolled through the Colorado State playoffs with ease claiming a championship, and followed it up by showing their ability at a highly competitive Rocky Mountain District Championships. Colorado lost to the Dallas Stars Elite in the round robin play at districts, but faced-off in a rematch against the Stars in the championship game and drubbed them by a 7-2 score. Colorado stands at #3 in the country right now in both national rankings, and rightfully so. Earlier in the year the Thunderbirds and Regals played to a 2-2 tie, but four months have passed and much has happened to both these teams.

The Thunderbirds controlled this game from the start and never let up leading to a dominating 6-0 shutout over the Buffalo Regals. Matias Cleland got the Thunderbirds on the board first with a powerplay goal, and even strength goals by Veatch, Masanotti, and Smith gave Colorado a four goal advantage after the first period of play. Then Hawkinson and Bozeman added tallies for the Thunderbirds in the second period to round out the scoring in the game. It was a tough night for the Regals’ goaltenders as Buffalo’s Moore gave up four goals on six shots in the opening 11:23 of the game, resulting in the Regals’ Rotolo coming in to replace Moore for the remainder of the game. Even though the score was lopsided, the shots advantage was only slightly in Colorado’s favor by a 25-21 margin. The Thunderbirds just capitalized on their quality chances given to them, and win an important game in a very competitive National Division at Nationals.

Colorado takes on the one-loss St. Louis Blues, a desperate hockey team after a tough one goal loss to #1 ranked Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep. The second ranked team St. Louis Blues can find their National title hopes coming down to a big game versus Colorado Thunderbirds. Buffalo looks to bounce back when they face another one-loss team in Honeybaked.
