10:30 Workshops - Period A
1. Mission 101: Join us and discover opportunities in Mission ranging from Midnight Run in Manhattan, to rescue efforts in Haiti, to building affordable housing on a Native American reservation. Learn fund-raising techniques, discover what makes mission really happen in all kinds of situations, and where mission and worship can converge in our spiritual development.
2. Building Community Without Paper: Blogging, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google Docs; just what's happening in Long Island Presbytery? A duo of church users of electronic media will discuss and demonstrate how you can use these new tools to build and enhance community in our "community."
3. Hands-On Mission Projects: Two options for learning while actually “doing” hands on projects. Participants can do either or both: A) Busy Hands Mission - An opportunity not only to learn about prayer shawl and other knitting ministries, but to start your own shawls. Bring hearts and hands ready to do hands on mission. B) Food Prep Hands on Ministry - Experience the blessing of hands on ministry in food prep. Break, bless, and prepare food for use by hungry people this day.
4. Growing Disciples in a Post-Modern World: Jesus walked with them, talked with them, gave them parables to ponder and a way of life to emulate. From birth to adulthood in these modern days, how do congregations provide lifelong practices and relationships to develop, deepen and strengthen the walk of today’s disciples?
5. Evangelism – What is It? Evangelism – Not knocking on doors, but awakening hearts to the church in the midst of a community. Our congregational leaders share the innovative ways in which we’ve brought the life of the church into the community and the community into the life of the church.
6. Leadership Workshop for the Hispanic Community – Part I: Guest leader - The Rev. Luis Espinosa, Iglesia Fort George, Presbytery of NYC
7. Welcoming the Stranger: A Biblical Perspective on Immigration: Topics will include “The Law and the Sojourner in Old Testament writings”, “The New Testament Perspective on Hospitality towards ‘the Other’", “Listening to the stories of the of immigrants in our midst - Why did they come? How did they get here?” (continued on back)
