ABOUT HOOT:

Male black DSH Manx, born  April 1st, 2007, 6 years old.

His was born at my Moms house. Hoots Mom was a stray that showed up and had her babies.

We got him at about 6 weeks old. We also kept his sister and Mom.

His sister’s name is Annie “AKA Sissy” (Hoot & Annie) and his Moms name is Momma.

His other sister Heidi, comes to visit a lot from another house and they have kitty playdate, as her parents travel a lot and we kitty sit.

His Beans are Pam and Rick.

DIAGNOSIS

Hoot was diagnosed with Diabetes on September 27th, 2012 with a BG of 430 in the vets office.

INSULIN

Using Lantis

Gave 1st shot on October 4th, PM

1st week was on 1 unit

Saw no improvement according to Vet

2nd week Vet upped it to 2 units

10/20 lowered dose to 1.5 units

10/22 lowered it to .5 units

10/26 lowered to .25 units

10/31 lowered to .10 units

11/5 OTJ Trial

11/18 Officially OTJ!

HOME TESTING

Using a ReliOn Prime

BG’s are taken before every shot and sometimes in between, depending on levels.

Started home testing on 10/15/2012

FOOD

I am feeding 1 t Natures Variety Instinct Duck 1% at AM & PM shot times

Am breakfast all 3 cats free feed on 1 1/2 5oz cans of Grammys Pot Pie (original 8%) till gone

PM dinner free feed on EVO 95% Chicken & Turkey 2% till bedtime and I then put 2 big spoonfuls down to last thru the night

Also feeding Freeze Dried Chx for snacks.

SYMPTOMS THAT LEAD TO DIAGNOSIS

Weight loss

Excessive thirst & urination

Lethargic

OTHER HEALTH ISSUES

Had sore on back of leg.

Sore has completely cleared up since OTJ :)

No other health issues

OUT OF REMISSION

Hoot came out of remission and started back on Lantus on 6/8/13. We started him on 0.5u.

ABOUT PAM

I am a stay at home caretaker for an 89 year old friend James, who lives with us. I also take care of my 82 year old Mom who still lives on her own. I hope to one day get in an RV and take off traveling for a few years.
