Family Auto Use/Rules Agreement

This agreement is between (parent(s), referred to as we/us) and (child, referred to as you), regarding the use, operation, rules and regulations of any of the family automobiles. The family automobiles currently are .

1. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

2. The vehicle you will most frequently earn the right to operate is the . Use of the

vehicle with permission will be contingent on meeting all of the conditions/rules/regulations of this agreement.

3. Keys to this vehicle must always be placed where agreed upon when not in use.

4. In the event of foul weather, other vehicle maintenance problems or just preference of use, we shall

always have priority of use for this vehicle and all vehicles.

5. The family automobiles are owned by us.

6. When you are operating the family car, no other driver (other than us) is to be driving the vehicle.

7. Maximum number of passengers permissible in the vehicle – four plus the driver. Preferred number,

four including the driver. ALL PASSENGERS AND DRIVER MUST ALWAYS HAVE SEATBELTS ON AND DOORS LOCKED!

8. You are responsible for gas as needed and weekly oil, water, windshield wiper fluid and tire checks. If mechanical breakdowns occur as a result of your maintenance neglect, you are responsible for repairs.

9. The family car shall be kept clean inside and out, including the ashtrays, glove compartment and trunk.

NO SMOKING IS ALLOWED in the family automobiles!

10. Because use of the family auto is a privilege, continued use of the vehicle is dependent on maintaining

good grades in school and exhibiting good behavior in the community and within our family.

11. Accidents happen, for we are all human. If you are the cause of an accident, you will share in the cost

of the repair of the vehicle and pay for all the increased cost of insurance. Violations are really avoidable and inexcusable. If you receive a citation, you will pay the fine and any increased cost in insurance.

In addition, accidents and violations, as all other infractions of these rules and regulations, are grounds for restricting or eliminating the privilege of operating the family auto.

12. Use of the family auto in inclement weather should be restricted and will be determined by us.

13. The use of Drugs and/or Alcohol by anyone can be life threatening. ANY USE OF DRUGS OR

ALCOHOL ANYWHERE WILL CAUSE THE IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION OF DRIVING PRIVILEGES FOR SIX (6) MONTHS AND MAY BE MADE PERMANENT!

14. Radio. It is fun and enjoyable to listen to the radio. Keep the volume at a reasonable level, let someone

else do the tuning and focus on the most important thing you are doing – driving and paying attention to the road.

15. Passengers. The passengers in your car are your responsibility. Their lives and the lives of other drivers are always in your hands when you are driving. Their behavior in the car is also your responsibility.

16. Driving an automobile is an enjoyable yet a serious and sobering privilege. Each year over 20,000

teenagers die in automobile accidents – 20,000 young, bright lives that might have gone on to solve the mystery of cancer, help put a man farther out in space, graduated with honors from college, married and brought another life into this world or simply made someone else happy in some manner, shape or form. Their possible contributions to mankind are forever lost.

You must always remember you hold the lives of yourself, your passengers and other drivers in your hands each time you get behind the wheel. You must always be attentive, serious about your responsibility and focused on your driving. Of utmost importance is to be a defense driver – expect the unexpected, anticipate the actions of other drivers and pedestrians, never assume an accident cannot happen to you – that is when most likely it will.

17. We look forward to helping you with this new privilege and responsibility, and know you will work

hard to make our family proud of your ability to meet these rules and regulations. You have a very bright future, and we hope your proper learning and use of an automobile will be one more accomplishment you successfully master.

We have all read and agree to abide by these rules and regulations.
