Obama’s State of the Union Address brings up many pressing issues in our country today. The economic downturn, college students, mortages, gas, over seas armies, etc. They all have importance to bring back the economy after is what said to be “the second great depression,” but some can be categorized as more important than others. The issue that I believe is one of the most important is to bring manufacturing back into the United States.

I have heard my mom and dad talk about why we are giving a tax deduction to companies that more over seas countless times, it does not make one bit of sense. Obama talks about the tax code, “ Meanwhile, companies that choose to stay in American get hit with one of the highest tax rates in the world. It makes no sense, and everyone knows it. So let’s change it.” (State of the Union Address) He is 110% right in what he says, why exactly do we give them a tax break? If we used that money to bring them back over to the United States, and higher a lot more American workers, many people in manufacturing would get their jobs back. Therefore, rising the rate of employment!

Another point that he brings up is while American companies are overseas paying other countries workers money to do what Americans can perfectly do, why should we give them a tax reduction? He states, “That money should be used to cover moving expenses for companies like Master Lock that decide to bring jobs home.” At one point, American was in a great financial standing and we were able to go out and help other countries that were not in the same shoes as us. But now that we are in trillions of dollars in debt, why are we taxing our workers to provide jobs in our country?

The last point that Obama brings up is if you are an American manufacturer & if you are providing jobs in our country, than the company should receive a tax break. He talks about giving different sorts of companies tax breaks, “ If you’re a high-tech manufacturer, we should double the tax deduction you get for making your products here. And if you want to relocate in a community that was hit hard when a factory left town, you should get help financing a new plant, equipment, or training for new workers.” This makes complete sense, yet we are still doing it the backwards way.

Honestly, if you disagree with any of the points that were brought up around the issue, then you need to reevaluate the way you call yourself a US citizen. If this issue were to be properly solved, that millions and millions of dollars would be brought back into the United States. Let other countries deal with their own problems, we have plenty that our country needs to deal with. So many people in manufacturing towns would be able to receive their jobs back, make an honest living, support their family. Therefore boosting the economy, which is the most important thing to boost at the moment!
