Guidelines for Senior Speeches

Due to the high level of interest and the limited number of speaking slots, a selection process will be used to determine those who will speak at graduation events. The selection committee will determine both who will be invited to speak and at which event they may speak.

The first step in this selection process is to provide a recording of you giving your speech  to Mr. Porter or Ms. Blodgett on or before April 11th. The recording must be in a digital format (cd, dvd, thumb drive, ...) and be viewable on school laptops. An easy way to do this is to use a webcam to record yourself, like the iSight cameras in a Macbook.

Speeches must be under five minutes to be considered.

While the speech you record may not be your final version, it is what will be used to select those who will give speeches at graduation, banquet and candlelight. Given that, the speech you submit should reflect your best effort. A variety of messages and tones are expected, so while we don’t expect your message or tone to necessarily be serious, we expect a serious effort on your part.

If you are selected, speakers must consult with Mr. Paul and Mr. Vose, who have graciously agreed to assist you with both the content of your speech and its delivery. They must sign off on your speech no later than one week prior to the event at which you are speaking. They are also available to help you craft your recorded submission, but it is not required.

We anticipate notifying the selected speakers after April break.
