My Quest for a Jetbook Lite Case (and or Cover)

The Jetbook Lite is an ugly ereader:)

No, Not this side it its the other side, the back side, that’s the problem...

Its just nasty

having its business

hanging out like that!

I always think of this really old Ryan O’Neal movie “So Fine”....

...Any way that “Bulge” err the battery one seems to be the problem, because it just sticks OUT there......

There is a case made by Ectaco (or at least featured by Ectaco, on their site) that fits the Jetbook Lite.

From one side it looks fine, and performs one of the functions I want from a case or cover, namely camouflage.

Walking, waiting for public transportation, in my neighborhood (emphasis on hood) I don’t want any thing that looks like a PDA, Blackberry, or anything “techy” that someone else might want....

But the backside... its got a HOLE cut in it, (like those jeans from So Fine)... so the one piece that is supposed to come off, (battery bulge) that may eventually through use get cracked or chipped, letting in dust, dirt, or whatever into its “innards” isn’t protected....

But this is THE case specifically made for the Jetbook Lite....(prices updated 12-01-2010)

livingenzyme made a video of what he did with this to improve it. He took a JBL case, snipped the elastic on the top and bottom sides, and glued velcro to the back of the device and the rear inside of the case.

http://livingenzyme.webs.com/modifycase.htm

For me the one major case/cover made for an Ectaco Jetbook lite, wasn’t what I wanted.........

As an example, Aluratek just put a nice looking case up for the Libre  that has the look I wanted

Deluxe Leather Travel Case for the LIBRE eBook Reader PRO  http://aluratek.com/deluxe-leather-travel-case-for-the-libre-ebook-reader-pro

Okay before I go any further, let me describe what I wanted, before I reveal what I settled for...

My ideal case or cover would be hard outside, padded inside, and let me read from it

I wanted a case, or cover to look like a notebook (albeit a very small one:), but masking what was inside

I wanted a case, or cover to store the JBL where it would be protected from dirt, and dust, and maybe a short fall from bed or sofa to the carpeted floor.

So I started my quest for a case or cover at the forums of MobileRead. The JBL (at the time of purchase) did not meet any of my criteria except that it was under $100.00, later it let me read library books which was my number one goal, as I do not plan to ever buy any books for the JBL.

As I progressed in my quest I started to rethink my parameters …. any kind of leather-ish cover would still smell pda or ipod or something a heathen might want to separate from me so I started leaning towards a more deceptive cover, namely hollowing out a book and that works well although X-acto knives, utility blades, box cutters don’t do well with blind folks (Kids, don’t try this at home!)  I was able to make a cover that is so tight I cant shake the JBL from it, that I can read the from the JBL while it is in the book. I am working on version 2 that will house the JBL in the top section, then after about 50 pages of filler have a storage area for batteries and another area for a  spare USB cord

Tricking out your jetbook lite

An old zippered Franklin Covey Day-Planner (medium sized) with the binder pulled out will house the JetBook Lite along with the sync cord and a spare set of batteries. The case for an old Rocket Reader fits the JetBook(Lite) pretty well.

BodyGlove makes a perfect case. Its for e-book readers specific. Has a cushioned inside, and plenty of room for the lite.

I found a CD case at Walmart for about $5 that my wife uses.

She keeps it in her purse and just takes the Jetbook out to read and zips it back in when done.

Would this style cover work on the Jetbook Lite? Any covers that do?

Jetbook/Libre Case ?

Case Logic makes a case for the Sony Reader that fits my Jetbook Lite nicely. It zips around the edge, $29 at Best buy.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Body-Glove-Protective-E-Reader-Case/13025666 is a nice case for the jetbook lite. Its a bit big but is nicely padded and leaves you room to put in your usb cable and extra batteries and such if you want. The same case fits the ebookwise reader though its a little snug.
