The final version of your poem will be graded on the following:
- Did you follow all the specifications of the poetic form? (Double check the handout for requirements.)
- Does the title fit the whole poem? Does it invite a reader?
- Is the conclusion satisfying?
- Is there a so what?
- Would someone you’ve never met “get” your poem?
- Do the line breaks and stanza breaks support the meaning and rhythm of the poem? Does each line end with a strong word?
- Is there strong sensory imagery? Can the reader feel it, taste it, smell it, hear it, see it?
- Is each word the right word, not the almost-right word?
- Have you used poetic techniques (alliteration, personification, hyperbole)?
- Is there figurative language (metaphors/similes)? Do they match the tone of the poem?
- Are there spelling or grammar errors?
