- Have the children answer: What are these objects called? How do people use magnets like this? Display Flip Chart p. 53 to review vocabulary terms.
- Guide oral vocabulary development by first pointing at each object pictured on the chart and identifying it with the children.
- Ask: What is attached to the magnets? What else do you think will attach to magnets?
- Help the children tell about objects that magnets will pull and will not pull.
- Introduce the word attract.
- Have the children pantomime what it means to pull something.
- Have children use picture clues and answer questions.
- Call volunteers to circle and put an X on the appropriate pictures.
- Have the children answer the following questions: What would you use to help you quickly pick up a box of spilled paper clips? Why?
- Have the children explain their answer for the compare question.

- Name the objects on the table.
- Have the children answer: How would you get this toy truck to move? (push) How would you get this ball to move? (roll)
- Have the children listen to the song “I Made a Car.”
- Direct the children’s attention to Flip Chart p. 54 and have the children discuss the picture.
- Discuss the song by asking if they ever made a car from a small box.
- Have the children answer the following questions: How can you make a car move? (Give it a push) How can you make a car move faster? (Push with more force)
- The teacher will point to the word race in the song. Tell the children that a race is a contest to find out who or what is fastest.
