Madison College Chess Club
Fall 2019 meeting times: We meet Mondays, 11:00am-1:00pm in the STEM Center (Truax E1861), and Thursdays 2:00-4:00pm in the Truax cafeteria.
Come join us for a game or just to chat about chess. All ability levels welcome.
Madison College Students: Join the club using the WolfPack Connect App on your phone or tablet (desktop app coming soon). This is a new networking tool for clubs and Student Life this year. This is now the official roster, so please join and create a profile so we get credit for your membership. Download the new WolfPack Connect phone app from the Google Play Store or the iTunes App Store. Sign in with your campus email/username, then search for Chess Club in the groups to find us.
The Chess Club needs student membership and leadership to take on scheduling and promotional roles for the club. Please contact Mr. Alexander to volunteer to help out.
We do have to file new club paperwork with Student Life to reactivate the chess club this year. Consider whether you can help out as a student leader for the group.
Please stop by and join us. All abilities welcome!
Madison College Chess Club Officers – 2018-19
We are in need of all club officers since the club was inactive last year. Please contact Mr. Alexander if you are interested in serving in any vacant role. The only qualification for officers is that you must be a currently enrolled student.
Contact George Alexander (firstname.lastname@example.org or 608-246-6187) for more information.
We are on Chess.com: http://www.chess.com/groups/home/madison-college. Send a request to join the Chess.com group. Only the free basic membership is required to join. Challenge Mr. Alexander with username Geovance.
Chess Sets on Reserve
We also have 2 chess sets on reserve in the Truax Library. You may check one out for use on campus from the circulation desk.
The club can travel to other tournament events if there is interest. Some funding may be available to support club activities. See the Wisconsin Chess Association website for upcoming events.
Wisconsin College Events: We could send a team of 5-8 players for possible intercollegiate play in Wisconsin (possible opponents at Marquette, Milwaukee, Oshkosh). Travel support is available through the chess club funds. Dates for tournament play are not yet set.
Let Mr. Alexander know if you might be interested in attending tournament events. The chess club does have some funds in reserve which we can use for student entry fees, especially appropriate for the Marquette event.
Once we get set up with some regular meetings, we can also discuss what to do about organizing some on campus activities, such as a Madison College chess tournament.
