Wii Remote Plus (Nintendo RVL-CNT-01-TR) connection issue

The new Wii Remote Plus (with Wii MotionPlus inside) which has been in the market since a few months ago is incompatible with Smoothboard or other Wiimote applications. Earlier Wii Remote Plus models or the original Wii Remotes do not have this issue.

Symptoms
- User using a Wii Remote Plus
- Windows: Wiimote connects successfully using SmoothConnect but when Smoothboard is loaded, the Wiimote not found error appears
- Mac: Wiimote not detected by Smoothboard
How to check
via Connecting to Operating System
- After connecting the Wiimote, go to Bluetooth Devices
- The device name is detected as Nintendo RVL-CNT-01-TR instead of the usual Nintendo RVL-CNT-01
via Wiimote Hardware (from WiiHacks forum)

- Code in the battery compartment
- Look for a code that says LMB-RVL-WR/ (or something very similar) in small lettering
- it's followed by Z-C4 or Z-C6 (or C-C4 as of recently) it will not work
Solution for Mac
Download the updated version of Smoothboard for Mac (Version 1.0 1009) from: http://www.smoothboard.org/files/download/mac/Smoothboard_for_Mac_1009.dmg
The original Wii Remote or the new Wii Remote Plus should work in this update.
Solution for Windows
- Use original Wii Remotes or older Wii Remote Plus
- For the Nintento RVL-CNT-01-TR, the solution is to use the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack with a special compilation of the Smoothboard software. Both the original Wiimote and the new Wii Remote Plus works with this combination.

Installing Toshiba Bluetooth Stack
Download the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack 8.0 from

Note: The Toshiba Bluetooth Stack when used on unsupported adapters, has a 30 days evaluation period. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack should restart the evaluation period.

Uninstall existing Bluetooth Stack
- For Microsoft Bluetooth Stack and the Mini Bluetooth USB Adapter, go to Device Manager (Control Panel->System->Hardware) and expand the Bluetooth Radios list
- Right click on the Generic Bluetooth Radio item and click on Uninstall
- Unplug Bluetooth Dongle
- Restart the computer
Install Toshiba Bluetooth Stack
- Extract and run Toshiba Bluetooth Stack installer, Setup.exe
- When prompted, plug the Bluetooth USB Adapter
- Restart the computer after installation
Connecting Wii Remote with Toshiba Stack
Click on New Connection
Select Express Mode
Press Red Sync button in Wii Remote’s battery compartment and click on Next
Note: Pressing the 1 and 2 buttons simultaneously may not work
Select Nintendo RVL-CNT-01-TR and click on Next
Once connected, the device’s icon will be coloured green as above
Then, the special compilation of Smoothboard may be launched and the Wii Remote’s first Blue LED will be lighted.
To reconnect the Wii Remote, right click on the device name and click on Connect
Press the Red Sync button in the Wii Remote’s battery compartment and click on OK
Note: Pressing the 1 and 2 buttons simultaneously may not work
