OUTCOMES

(Lesson Focus)

What will the students know or be able to do at the end of the lesson?

ASSESSMENT

How will the students demonstrate that they have accomplished the desired outcome? Please state the question that will be asked

during your formative assessment.

STRATEGIES

In what activities will the students be engaged to accomplish the desired outcome? Please list in the

order that you will implement.

The students will explore attributes of blocks and practicing addition and subtractions skills.

How manny trucks are on the road all together?

  1. Ask the children if they have a favorite truck and why.
  2. Read aloud Trucks.
  3. Have the children identify the trucks in the book.
  4. Describe the trucks observed in the book, such as how many wheels color, what is used for.
  5. Ask: How do trucks travel?
  6. Help the children build a roadway for trucks that includes tunnels, a gas station, and a main road.
  7. Have a small group of children add and subtract trucks to the road.
  8. Ask: How many trucks are in the road? If you add 1 more, how many do you have all together?
  9. Have the children take 1 truck away and ask: How many are left? Do we have fewer or more trucks now?
  10. Introduce what it means to go into a tunnel, or a bridge.
  11. Have the children explore trucks and roadways prior to task.
  1. What is your favorite truck?
  2. How do trucks travel?
  3. What would happen if you add 1 more?
  4. Can you explain your answer?

  2. Have the small groups of children play a game using trucks and roadway they created on the floor.
  3. Explain to the children that we will be playing a mathematical game using addition and subtraction.
  4. Review vocabulary words combine and separate.
  5. Demonstrate combine and separate.
  6. The teacher will tell a story .
  7. Practice a few suggested teacher prompt.
  8. The teacher will tell a story while prompting students add and o/ or subtract within five trucks.
  9. Have the children add and subtract trucks from the road.
  10. Have the children answer the following questions: How many trucks on the road? Take one out. How many are left? Why do you have 2 left?
  1. How many trucks are on the gas station?
  2. What would result if you take one of the road?
