/v/’s Value for money steam list
I tried to keep this list as short as possible, only including games that are more or less unanimously praised.
Under 5 dollars
Commandos series - Classic isometric strategy/stealth game
Freedom Force - A very customizable superhero strategy game
VVVVVV - A simple, challenging and FUN platformer with great music
X-com UFO Defense - *The* defining turn-based squad strategy game
Arx Fatalis - Fantastic 90s Dungeon crawler/RPG.
Under 10 dollars
The Valve 7 - Need I explain? Half-life 1/2, Team Fortress 2, Portal, Counterstrike, Garry's Mod, Day of Defeat Source. If you don't have one of these games already, I would be very surprised
Magicka - Fantastic co-op spell casting game with tons of interesting spell combinations. Very funny too.
Deus Ex - The game of its time.
Audiosurf - The original 'rhythm' game. Use your own songs to 'surf' on their tracks.
Company of Heroes - Widely hailed as one of the greatest RTS games of all time
Plants vs. Zombies - Simple tower-defense-like game. Lots of replayability here
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast - Out of the Jedi Knight series, this is known to have the best singleplayer.
F.E.A.R. - Solid shooter with paranormal/horror elements.
Fallout 1/2 - The games that started it all, fantastic isometric CRPGs
Max Payne 1/2 - Great third-person shooters with a unique way of telling the story.
Hitman 2: Silent Assasin - Usually recognised as having some of the most creative missions in the series.
Call of Cthulhu - A fantastic horror game with some annoying stealth parts
Dark Messiah - A great fantasy first-person combat game made in the source engine.
Beyond Good and Evil - A solid adventure/stealth/beat'em up game with fantastic characters.
Gothic 2: Gold Edition - A German open-world RPG that is *very* challenging. A highly flawed masterpiece.
Disciples 2: Gold - Those who have played HoMM will be familiar with this gameplay, although the combat is a little simpler. Great value
Tropico - Sim city for Dictators
