With regards to the nature of the ‘un’conference, if the session facilitator was available and/or a few wanted to learn or discuss the topic, a session could be held.  The Administrator strand and Career strand will have similar topics facilitated at each site.

What are some of the tools/resources highlighted?

When will the daily schedule be available to the participants?

In the essence of the ‘un’conference, the final facilitated session schedules will be displayed for the specific site the day the sessions begin, as sessions can be added throughout iCiL 2012. There may be a sneak preview a few days ahead.

GENERAL:

What is an ‘un’conference?

Wikipedia defines an ‘un’conference as a facilitated, participant-driven conference. The content is often provided by the participants themselves.  The focus includes many topics; networking, educational technologies, innovative practices, Web 2.0 tools and more.

The planning group was interested in differentiated approaches to use in each of their schools.  In the fall of 2007, the group started planning the first ‘un’conference in Kansas called ‘iConnect iLearn’. Some had been to the Edublogger ‘un’conference and used that outstanding experience to frame the planning. Everyone interested in facilitating a session can sign up on facilitator proposal form on the iConnect iLearn ning network.  There is a quick kickoff from the organizers at each site -- then the sessions and conversations begin.

What makes this so different from other conferences?

Session facilitators understand that you choose to attend any session you wish—stay at one or stop by each one.  The Law of the Two Feet applies: ‘If you are not learning or contributing to a talk or presentation or discussion, it is your responsibility to find somewhere you can contribute or learn’. You are responsible for your own learning and customize to meet your needs.

The day is informal and some of the best conversations happen in the hallway and in the gathering spot. At the end of the day you’re exhausted and energized at the same time.
