Editor’s Corner

Jai Jinendra,

The last big event of the year, ‘Camp Lalit’ was a big success. Adults and children alike, everyone looks forward to this overnight outdoor camp. On behalf of the executive committee, I want to thank everyone who helped make this event a big success. We were fortunate to have Shri Bhadrabahuji this year who led a great set of discourses.

Discourse Topic

rEvolution of Mind

As presented at YJA

Mr. Sudhir Shah

This multi-media presentation in English is geared towards both youth and adults. Using neuroscience and quantum physics, we will examine aspects of Jain philosophy, understand how human mind work, what limits us, what empowers us.

-   Are you doing all the things you have learned to do - yet find yourself

empty, frustrated and unfulfilled and don’t know why?

-   Have you separated your spiritual life from your daily life because you

don’t know how to bring them together?

-   Have you buried your true self and gifts within you because you don’t

know how they fit in your life?

then join us on this spiritual quest in light of scientific and metaphysical research.

Richmond Sangh Chaitya Paripati

On Sunday Oct 7th, JSCNC hosted Richmond Sangh (JSVA - Jain Samaj of VA). I want to thank everyone who came and helped set-up the food, tables, chairs and stayed late awaiting the Sangh’s arrival. Due to transportation issues, the Sangh could not arrive on time - 10.30pm instead of 6.30 pm. Due to the late hour and Sunday, a number of volunteer families who had come earlier had left for the evening by the time the Sangh arrived. Special thanks to Mr. Harshad Shah and Mr. Pritesh Shah who stayed up late in the night helping us welcome the Sangh. Here is a copy of the email we received afterwards from Mr. Sanjay Gandhi on behalf of JSVA.

Jai Jinendra,

Kamleshbhai and Anandbhai,

Wow! your commitment to host JSVA was truly commendable.

During Chaitya Paripathi JSVA Sangh members on the bus trip from Atlanta were very hungry, tired and in need of rest. Despite our bus problems on Sunday night. At 5:30pm bus had a flat tire south of Charlotte, by time they fixed at 7:45p, our journey from Charlotte to Raleigh Temple was 3 hours and we arrived at 10:45 upon your persistant invitation to host by both of you. Darshan were done quickly and we were brought to dining hall at 11:15pm.

We had "tears of joy" when we learned only few people from Sangh were available for "Perfect Swamivtsalya" in short time during a cold night with love, pride of serving and smile. Please accept our "Michami Dukdamm" to you and your Sangh. We will never forget your commitment to help and host us on Oct 7th.

This heartfelt experience must go in "Records books" for us. We hope you will give us an opportunity to serve in future, on your Sangh's next North bound trip. All of you who helped are "Bhagyashali" for the great work of "Punya" .

To stay till 1am to serve and for the benefit of others is just "outstanding karma"

We thank you from bottom of our hearts.

"strong bond of friendship" between JSVA and Raleigh Jain Center will be remembered for ever.

These kind of "Anubhav" are memorable in life and Jainism for ever!!  this is what we live for..........

Sincerely with thanks

on behalf of JSVA

Sanjay Gandhi

Cropwalk 2012

Raleigh Crop Walk 2012 co-sponsored by JSCNC is organized at 2.00 PM on Sunday October 28, 2012 at Kids Marble museum, down town Raleigh. It is organized by Church World Service to end hunger.

CROP Hunger Walks help children and families worldwide - and right here in North Carolina - to have food for today, while building for a better tomorrow. Our local efforts are making a huge difference, and so can you. The CROP Hunger Walk is the heart and soul of Raleigh! It is the only event that brings together all members of our community - young and old, all faiths and walks of life for a common goal - to end hunger, one step at a time! Our Walk engages a broad cross-section of the community in service to the neediest of the world. It is an interfaith, community-oriented event that (1) raises funds to help hungry people, (2) raises awareness of hunger as an issue, (3) engages and trains volunteers for community service, and (4) brings together persons of many ages and backgrounds in a common endeavor.

JSCNC’s Role:

JSCNC is actively involved, and greatly recognized by CWS Raleigh Crop Walk and Triangle interfaith alliance because

  1. JSCNC is one of the leading sponsors of the walk.
  2. JSCNC volunteers manage walk fiscal lead by Ajay Shah. (8 Volunteers)
  3. JSCNC members walk and donate. (Last year 6 walkers raised $739 in donation).

It is also a great opportunity for young volunteers for charitable work, and learn processes. CWS provides certificate for the time they spend to help.

Please call Mr. Ajay Shah 919 601 2624 or email ajay.r.shah@gmail.com on or before October 21, 2012, if you wish to register as volunteer on 10/28/2012 1.00 PM through 5.00 PM.For more information, go to http://www.cropwalkraleigh.com .

4. Pathshala Corner

JSCNC Pathshala serves our young kids to instill spiritual development, self-awareness and promote Jain identity in individuals, based on the principles of Jainism. The teachers pay special attention to the needs of young and older groups and have structured curriculum as such.

The Paathshala classes take place every first Sunday of the month from 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Hindu Temple Cultural Hall AND on 3rd Sundays during the monthly meeting. If you plan to attend and/or need more information, please call Mrs. Rita Lodaya or Mrs. Sejal Shah. Paathshala e-mail address is JSCNCpathshala@yahoo.com.

/Sign-out Process

I wanted to remind everyone that children's safety is our utmost concern. Our pathshala attendance continues to grow. All pathshala classes are held on safe premises of Hindu Center, however there is considerable traffic in the parking lot. To help pathshala teachers maintain order and keep everyone safe, we are asking all the parents to sign in and sign out their kids - irrespective of the age of their child - during the 1st Sunday pathshala. We request very basic information (Who, When and emergeny contact). We will use this process for all future youth activities. The goal of this process is to balance convenience and children’s safety.

Please continue to follow this process. It is important to cooperate with the teachers for the safety of your children.
