Heat Trainer Stations

Station 1: Environmental Impact

Have you ever wondered what happens to those plastic soda 6-pack holders? They can be dangerous to wildlife such as ducks and seagulls, who can become tangled up in them. In this activity, your hand is going to be a seagull caught in a 6-pack holder. To begin, place a rubber band (the 6-pack holder) going over the knuckles and with each end looped through your thumb and pinky. You have 120 seconds to get yourself untangled from the rubber band before you die! Each person in the group should complete 2-3 trials and record each trial in the online spreadsheet. Time your trials with the interactive stopwatch.

Station 2: Response Time

Different people have different reflexes. You are going to test your reflexes in this activity. How quickly can you catch a ruler?

Station 3: Lemonade Stand

Have you ever seen kids on the corner selling lemonade? Have you ever thought about about the different decisions that a successful lemonade stand owner has to make to make the most money possible? One little girl Alex decided to start her own lemonade stand to raise money for an important cause. Watch the video about Alex and then use the Lemonade Stand Application to practice running your own lemonade stand.

After you have played the Lemonade stand for 14 day go to Wall Wisher to post a brief description of how your lemonade stand went and the decisions that you had to make to be more successful.

Station 4: Exploring Math Manipulatives

Station 6: Social Studies

Station 7: Rubrics

Rubrics accomplish several tasks. When used correctly, rubrics set the standards for authentic assessment of student performance tasks, make the students aware of what is expected of them, and provide a tool for the teacher to complete an objective assessment of the task. In student-directed activities, it is entirely appropriate to have students create their own rubrics to provide continuity of standards. Please explore the process of creating a rubric through the use of Rubistar.

Station 8: Collaborative Structures

Explore a few of these 52 Collaborative Structures. After reviewing several, please go to Socrative to show what you know.
