Dear 2nd/3rd Grade Parents and Students:                                     10/4/12

This letter is to inform you that your child has been selected to play the role of __________________ in our upcoming 2nd/3rd grade musical, Squirm!  Our production will take place on Thursday, November 8th, 2012 in the Willard Orchard Hills Commons.  We will do an afternoon performance for the school at 2:30 and an evening performance for friends and family at 7:00.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE mark this very important date on your calendar!  You don’t want to miss it!

Being selected to play this role is an exciting privilege for your child.  This opportunity requires a lot of responsibility from your child which includes attendance at BOTH performances.  They will be expected to memorize their assigned speaking parts (which are highlighted in the attached script).  Speaking parts need to be memorized by no later than Thursday, Oct 25th.  I will be testing students on their parts to make sure they are fully prepared.  It is my desire that you assist your child with learning/memorizing their lines and/or solo.  Most speaking parts have lines that are just a simple 1-4 lines; very short, very manageable!  If your child doesn’t have an attached script with highlighted lines and just has a costume guide page, this means your child is a character that is acting out their part, not reciting lines.  These children still need the suggested costume as noted on the guide page.

Each child with a speaking part will also be asked to provide a simple costume to portray their role for this production.  You will find an attached paper with suggested ideas to help you come up with your simple costume.  (Please note that I may already have some items to help with your child’s costume.  These items will be written in on the attached paper).   Please understand that I NEVER want to burden anyone with having to purchase items for making program costumes.  These suggested ideas are simple enough that most materials and accessories are things that you already have sitting around the house.  Be creative. J Of course, if you want to purchase things for your costume, that is perfectly fine.  If you don’t think you or your child will use the costume again and if you are willing to donate it to the Willard Orchard Hills Music Dept. after the production, we are always glad to add to our collection for future use.

Trust me when I say that I deeply appreciate your assistance with helping make your child’s production be the best that it can be.  This doesn’t happen without the support of each parent!!!!  The students are always excited to share their hard work with their friends and family!  We can’t wait to see you in November!

Please feel free to contact me at school by e-mail or phone if you have any questions, concerns, etc.

Musically Yours,
