AWENDA PROV. PARK
Today, (21st of June) you may remember, was the date originally set for my breast ultrasound, but because I got it done earlier, this was canceled leaving the day free. I asked Gord what he wanted to do for his birthday. Well, he decided he wanted to visit another provincial Park - AWENDA on Georgian Bay .
After a 1 km boardwalk/pathway trail known as the Beaver Trail - a misnomer indeed, as the beaver "pond" was but a trickle of water and there were no signs of beaver activity, recent or past; Gord wanted to try the trail the young girls at the office described as 150 stairs and a view right across Georgian Bay!! I did a double-take, questioned him on the decision, but he wanted to "try" Well - we did the stairs, and when the path came to a "T" we looked at the map, and chose to go right - after a very long, mostly uphill walk, Gord was having trouble putting one foot in front of the other. I was dripping with perspiration and wondered if we would make it back before dark
We did get to one area overlooking a bluff, no barrier, fence or even a warning sign, just a straight drop down, and a very small view of water through the dense trees.
I managed to find him a sturdy straight limb to use as a walking stick, and with frequent rests, we headed back the way we came. Actually, except for worrying about him, this was the best part of our woodsy walk! Downhill for one, and in the cooler part of a lovely Summer evening, and at a slower pace!
The usual frustration of hearing numerous birds in the canopy above, but seldom seeing them and never long enough to get the camera focused on anything.
We made it back to the car, and had some refreshment, then I took the wheel, and with Gord as navigator, we managed to get lost, but finally found our way to Hwy 400. He wanted supper at the Crock & Block in Barrie, so we ate, at the fashionable hour.
The waitress brought his desert with a sparkler sizzling on it, and we all (there was only one other couple in the restaurant!) sang "THE SONG" (Again!!!!)
We were both in bed early; then Gord was up with "shin splints" (not surprising!) And Jan was up with shoulder discomfort. It was worth it though!
