 Understand that objects move in different directions.

 The children will demonstrate push and pull.

  1.   The teacher will display objects that move. (truck, ball)
  2. Name the objects on the table.
  3. Have the children answer: How would you get this toy truck to move?  (push) How would you get this ball to move? (roll)
  4. Have the children listen to the song “I Made a Car.”
  5. Direct the children’s attention to Flip Chart p. 54 and have the children discuss the picture.
  6. Discuss the song by asking if they ever made a car from a small box.
  7. Have the children answer  the following questions: How can you make a car move? (Give it a push) How can you make a car move faster? (Push with more force)
  8. The teacher will point to the word race in the song. Tell the children that a race is a contest to find out who or what is fastest.

  1. What are these objects called? (ball and a truck)
  2. How would you move them?
  3. What would happen if you did not push the car and did not roll the ball?

 The children will learn about motion of objects at different speeds. 

 Identify different speeds

  1.  Have the children sing “I Made a Car” on Flip Chart p. 57.
  2. Guide oral vocabulary development by asking these questions: What words would you use to tell how objects move? (Fast, slow) Suppose you could go someplace by train or tricycle. Which would be a slower way to go? Why?
  3. The teacher will explain that objects move at different speeds.
  4. Have the children use picture clues and answer the questions.
  5. Call on volunteers to circle and put an X on the appropriate pictures.
  6. Have the children answer the following questions: What is something  that moves faster than a train?
  7. Have the children Infer question. (Motorcycle) because it has a motor)
  8. Make a class list of things that move fast or slow.
  9. Name objects on the list and talk about how the object moves.
  10. Have the children look at all the pictures on the “Fast” chart and select the object that they think moves fastest of all and give reasons.
  1. What words will describe how objects move?
  2. Can you demonstrate how a train moves? (Fast or slow)
  3. Can you predict what  object in the fast list moves the fastest?
