- Name the objects on the table.
- Have the children answer: How would you get this toy truck to move? (push) How would you get this ball to move? (roll)
- Have the children listen to the song “I Made a Car.”
- Direct the children’s attention to Flip Chart p. 54 and have the children discuss the picture.
- Discuss the song by asking if they ever made a car from a small box.
- Have the children answer the following questions: How can you make a car move? (Give it a push) How can you make a car move faster? (Push with more force)
- The teacher will point to the word race in the song. Tell the children that a race is a contest to find out who or what is fastest.

- Guide oral vocabulary development by asking these questions: What words would you use to tell how objects move? (Fast, slow) Suppose you could go someplace by train or tricycle. Which would be a slower way to go? Why?
- The teacher will explain that objects move at different speeds.
- Have the children use picture clues and answer the questions.
- Call on volunteers to circle and put an X on the appropriate pictures.
- Have the children answer the following questions: What is something that moves faster than a train?
- Have the children Infer question. (Motorcycle) because it has a motor)
- Make a class list of things that move fast or slow.
- Name objects on the list and talk about how the object moves.
- Have the children look at all the pictures on the “Fast” chart and select the object that they think moves fastest of all and give reasons.
