Katie – ...I asked our research team for the total number of earmarks in the state of Texas in our Congressional Pig Book database from 2008-2010. There were 355 earmarks worth $406.2 million in 2010, 369 earmarks worth $469.5 million in 2009, and 427 earmarks worth $559 million in 2008. This information can be verified by using the database from the Pig Book section of our website: http://www.cagw.org/reports/pig-book/2010/
The total for the three years is 1,151 earmarks worth $1.4 billion. As we discussed, the only way to say that Governor Perry “requested” 1,200 earmarks, or more than 1,000 earmarks, is to attribute all of the earmarks over that three-year period to him. Again, that would mean that every governor would therefore be “requesting” all earmarks that members of Congress added to the appropriations bills for every year that the governor had been in office.... Please let me know if you need any additional information.
