Lycan Spawn

Lycan Spawns are the distant relatives of lycanthropes. They are by no means as powerful as their full blooded versions, or can infect others, but still have the ability to take on the same type of forms. Sometimes when a lycanthropy has a child with one who is not inflected, the child does not have lycanthropy. However one or two generations later, a lot like tieflings, this lycanthropic blood springs up again in a form of a lycan spawn. Lycan Spawn also shares with tieflings a general hatred toward them as well, as they are seen more as a plague or abomination of a race; especially among the race of the base creature. This however is only true with none nature based cultures, as druidic cultures may find things such as this a little less offensive. Cultures who value physical adeptness in high regard, such as barbaric tribes of orcs and similar cultures, may see this as just a freak, and possibly even a blessing.

Creating a Lycan Spawn

“Lycan Spawn” is an inherited template that can be added to any humanoid.

Size and Type: The creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature) gains the shapechanger subtype. The lycan spawn takes on the characteristics of some type of animal (referred to hereafter as the base animal) within one size category of the base creature's size. A lycanthrope's hybrid form is the same size as the base creature. References to hit dice refer to the total of racial and class hit dice combined.

Alignment: Any, as lycan spawn are not genetically, and even less so socially, driven to be a specific alignment.

Base Speed: As base race. (see below).

Lycan Blood: Lycan spawn qualify as lycanthropy and shape shifters.

Immunities: As base creature, plus a lycan spawn is immune to lycanthropy of all types.

Silver Vulnerability (Ex): Due to the lingering curse of lycanthropy in their blood, lycan spawn suffer a negative reaction to the presence of silver. A lycan spawn who carries a silver item (such as weapons or coins) is sickened (-2 penalty to attack and weapon damage rolls, saving throws, and skill and ability checks) until that item is dropped.

A lycan spawn also has a vulnerability to silver, making them take extra damage from attacks with weapons of this kind. A lycan spawn can carry mithral without any problem, but takes damage from weapons made of mithral as if it were silver.

AC: In hybrid form the lycan spawn have a natural armor bonus of +1. In animal form the lycan spawn have a natural armor bonus of the base animal with an increased of +1.

Speed: Hybrids use the base creature's speed and type. Animal form uses that forms speed and type.

Melee: A lycan spawn gains natural attacks in animal forms according to the base animal. In hybrid form, the retain their humaoid form’s natural attacks, (if any), as well as gain access to the animal form’s natural attacks.

Special Abilities: A lycan spawn retains all the special attacks, qualities, and abilities of the base creature. In hybrid or animal form it gains the abilities of the base animal. In animal form it gains the qualities of the base animal as well, but none of the base animal's special attacks. A lycan spawn also gains low-light vision, and qualifies for the Keen Scent ability (APG pg.164) which is only active while not in humanoid form, and the following:

Change Shape (Sp) All lycan spawn have three forms—a humanoid form, an animal form, and a hybrid form. A lycan spawn can not take on the animal form normally, and requires a feat to gain access to this form. Equipment does not meld with the new form between humanoid and hybrid form, but does between those forms and animal form. A lycan spawn can shift to any of its three alternate forms as a move-equivalent action. A slain lycan spawn reverts to its humanoid form, although it remains dead.

While assuming an alternate from you usually get a +20 circumstance bonus to disguise. However while assuming hybrid from a lycan spawn only gets a +2 bonus to disguise, and note the emphasis of circumstance with this specific bonus, as it may not always apply.

They may stay in any of their forms indefinitely. A lycan spawn may take on a different form 2 times per day at 1 hit die. They may change shape an addition time per day at 3 hit dice, and an additional time per day every 3 hit dice there-after. Changing to their humanoid form does take up a use per day. When they can transform 6 times per day, they instead may change forms at will, and without any limitations per day.

The lycan spawn's changing form ability is susceptible to the Calm Emotions and Waves of Fatigue spells, as well as any other effect that fatigues them. These spells can be casted on them solely with the intent to change them back to humanoid form. If they fail their saving throw from the spell they changes them back to their humanoid form for 1D4 minutes, and they receive a additional -2 to strength and dexterity for the duration of the fatigue. No other effects from the spell take effect, so moral bonuses which would normally be counted by Calm Emotions would remain. Being forced to human form uses up one of their transformations for the day. If they do not have any more uses, they instead lose two uses the next day. Likewise, a lycan spawn cannot change forms while fatigued.

Lycanthropic Aura (Ex) In any form, natural lycan spawn can communicate and empathize with animals related to their animal form. They can use Diplomacy to alter such an animal's attitude, and when doing so they gain a +2 racial bonus on the check. However animals of a prey type suffer a -4 to diplomacy checks to deal with such animals, such as horses, some rodents (such as rabbits, but defiantly not rats), and dear. These bonuses and minuses stack with the druid wild empathy and similar abilities.

Ability Scores: All lycan spawn have a different tie to their animal side than normal lycanthropy, so they have a -2 to int. They also have +2 Str and +2 Con in hybrid and animal forms; if the base animal’s dexterity is higher than its' strength, a lycan spawn gets +2 Dex and +2 Con instead. If they are the same, the player may chose which set of bonuses to their stats, but at the GM’s discursion. Lycan Spawn have enhanced senses while in their alternate form granting them a +1 on perception checks.

CR: +0

Feats:

Silver Resistance

Requirements: Lycan Spawn, Con 13

Benefit: You have enough resistance to carry silver with no negatives so long as it is in a closed container of a hardness equal or greater than standard wood. This does not eliminate the minuses inflicted by being struck by a silver weapon, and does not reduce the damage you would take from a silver weapon in any way.

Normal: You normally become sickened from carrying an item made of silver.

Bestial Combatant

Requirements: Lycan Spawn, Base Animal has a Special Attack

Benefit: Chose a single special attack that your base animal has. You may now perform that attack while in animal form. However doing this uses up one form changes per day per turn the special attack is used. If they do not have any more changes per day, they cannot use this ability.

Normal: Normally you do not get any special attacks of the base animal in any form.

Force of Nature

Your animal nature is more stubborn than normal.

Requirement: Lycan Spawn, Base Fortitude Save +3

Benefit: While in their animal or hybrid form and would be subject to being forced to their humanoid form, they are able to retain their form but are still fatigued, and they do gain the special minuses for reverting back to humanoid form, even though they do not change form. However the fatigue duration is doubled if you are the soul target.

Normal: Any effect that would make them fatigued would make them revert to humanoid form and gain special minuses. Normally the fatigue effect lasts for 1D4 minutes.
