AP English Literature Weekly Assignment Sheet
Week of 12/6/10 (Monday) - 12/10/10 (Friday)
Ms. Kingsbury & Ms. Armstrong
Monday, December 6, 2010:
- Today we are out for a meeting! TWIST the poems left for you to do as classwork. Finish homework assignments from over the weekend if you have not done so.
- HOMEWORK: Finish TWISTing “Miners” and “Not Waving but Drowning.” Take notes in preparation for in-class practice AP compare and contrast essay.
Tuesday, December 7, 2010:
- Practice Time! Timed in-class poetry essay - You will construct a well-organized response to a Q1-style AP essay question using two poems that we have analyzed in the last week. You may choose from “Chimney Sweeper,” “Five Ways,” “Miners,” “Not Waving,” “Virtue,” and “This Is.”
- HOMEWORK: Over the weekend, you found song lyrics that were thematically related to the poems we have examined. In your notebook, write a ONE PAGE journal response reflecting on what you found. Consider these questions in your response: How do song writers differ from poets in their approach to a specific topic? How are they similar? What structural differences do you see? What effect does music have on how you feel and understand a specific topic?
Wednesday, December 8, 2010:
- Early dismissal! No class! Continue to catch up on missing classwork and homework.
- HOMEWORK: If you did not do the homework that was assigned on Friday, please find 2 song lyrics that are thematically connected to the poems that we have analyzed in the last week. Write the lyrics in your notebook (first stanza and chorus) and provide a 5 line explanation for why you chose those lyrics and how they are thematically related. Please bring this with you to class on Thursday.
Thursday, December 9, 2010:
- Creative Writing & Poetry Analysis - We are hoping to use laptops for this assignment! Stay tuned! Either way, be prepared to write creatively and analytically.
- HOMEWORK: Bring in a copy of your resume, or email it to yourself so that you will be able to work on it during class time tomorrow. If you do not have a resume, make a list in your notebook of all the jobs, volunteers experiences, school activities, and other extra-curricular activities which you have participated in since 9th grade.
Friday, December 10, 2010:
